Mon Dec 03, 12 10:47 am OT - WA GMO Petition to know what is in our food |

Hoping some of you WA NW Kiter's will please take a moment to sign this and spread the word to help remind the powers that be to know that we deserve the right to know what is in our food.
Mahalo
I-522, “The People’s Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act,” is simple. The initiative would require food sold in retail outlets to be labeled if the ingredients are produced through genetic engineering.

350,000 signatures... thanks for stepping up Washington and best of luck as we obviously need it especially seeing the powers that be have chosen ex-Monsanto lawyers, consultants, directors, chairmen, and CEOs to control highly important positions in the FDA and EPA
Washington voters could decide to label genetically modified food
Posted on January 3, 2013 at 12:53 PM
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Any food sold in Washington state and made with genetically engineered crops would have to be labeled under a ballot initiative submitted Thursday.
The move came two months after California voters rejected a similar measure that pitted food safety advocates against agricultural and biotechnology giants in a roughly $55 million advertising battle.
Opponents of the food labeling argue it will raise food prices and hurt farmers. Supporters contend that consumers should have a choice about eating genetically engineered products, even if the federal government and major science groups say such foods are safe to eat.
Proponents promised to take their fight to the Northwest after the California ballot measure failed.
On Thursday, initiative sponsors delivered 350,000 petition signatures to state officials inside an ambulance with a sign on the side reading "Label GMO Food.".............. more info below.

We did it!
Thanks to everyone's amazing response to our campaign, Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps, who was our anonymous donor, has gone public with their support and will now be donating $750k to the I-522 campaign, instead of the $500k they originally planned to donate.
So, between the $250k we raised, and the $750k Dr. Bronner's is donating, that's $1 million for the Label It Wa campaign.
Show Dr Bronners some love! http://www.drbronner.com/ |

Scientifically speaking...
All the food we eat has been genetically modified... by intermixing different types of the same plant i.e. tomato plants. Difference is if it was done in a lab by scientists or done in the field by farmers... such as splicing apple trees, cross pollinating, etc...
Still we should know who did what to our food. |

Okay, I'll bite. In 8th grade, in US History class, I learned that it costed money to be a representative in US congress. There were traveling fees, living expenses, and of course your time. How were you going to support your family when being a representative took up so much time and you couldn't work?
Congress agreed that in order to do a good job, they should be paid. I agree with this. If you think they shouldn't be paid, or paid less, try volunteering on a committee in your community for a minimum of a year. You'll notice it becomes a full time job, if you give two shits about any part of the process.
With all that said, adjust your budget for %5 less. 5% makes or breaks my budget, and I think it's the same for most people.
Sure, there is a lot of fat in the process we call goverment, but I think attacking the president over a goodwill gesture isn't constructive, nor is attacking congressional salaries. Because of the last two wars, we will all be paying more tax. Because of fannie-mae and freddy-mac, our dollar sucks. We must work hard, and move forward. Look internally for solutions to your own problems, and the US (and nwkite/facebook) will be a better place. |
