For those who don't know... the Red Bull Stratos jump is happening now. Scrubbed the mission yesterday due to winds. Hopefully today will work out. They have a killer website with live feed.

The weight of that dood's giant nads must be key in reaching maximum velocity.

if you got em smoke em - one bad mofo
One of the chief concerns has been to avoid the problem that almost killed Mr. Kittinger during Project Excelsior. He was supposed to be stabilized during his fall by a small drogue parachute, but on one training jump in 1959 it did not open because the cord got tangled around his neck.
As a result, Mr. Kittinger’s body went into a spin that reached 120 revolutions per minute as he plummeted more than 60,000 feet. He blacked out and regained consciousness only after his reserve parachute opened automatically about a mile above the ground. When he came to, he later wrote, he first assumed he must have died, but then he spotted the parachute’s canopy above him and made a sudden realization: “I am impossibly, wonderfully alive.”

One of the milestones of kiteboarding___Highest jump from a kite:
"Neil Hutchinson loses his kite and falls 100 feet out of the sky. He was being towed into the air with a jetski when his shackle snapped. He lost his kite and plummeted towards what should have been a watery grave. The entire bay is shallow except for the one spot he landed. He survived with minor injuries. Filmed in Islamorada, Florida "

Someone mentioned that this has been done before... that is correct... but what hasn't been done before is a human body breaking the sound barrier outside of an enclosed vehicle. This is monumental.

If he is jumping from the same height how would he break the sound barrier and the other dude didnt? Mass doesnt effect the rate at which he falls right? So the only way to do it would be to streamline the suit he is in???
Also would his fastest speed be achieved before he entered the part of the atmosphere where there is air again?

I don't know what either of these guys is talking about. This has not been done before since he will jump from 3 miles higher, break the sound barrier, and break the manned balloon altitude record. I say mad props considering this guy struggles with serious claustrophobia.
Oh and there is air at all alltitudes. Even the space station has to account for atmospheric drag.
New record: 36,000 meters (118,000 ft) (expected minimum)

From what I have read, Joe Kissinger only jumped form 102K feet.
This guy, Felix B. is gonna drop from 120K.

it was pretty cool to listen to. Very controlled breathing at the start. approaches 700 mph and the rate increases. Watch him tumble for a while which made me sick and hear no increased breathing rate led me to believe he might have taken a night night for a second and then he is back in control talking a bit. Truely funny when he dropped the f bomb asking for smoke so he could see the wind coming from the east. pretty dam cool if you ask me. I am ready to go tandem with my kid and add wings so we can fly for a minute.
