PostMon Sep 24, 12 5:46 am    Kite size question? Reply with quote

I've not kited much at the even site this year and when I did I noticed that most people rig a kite size smaller than me.
After seeing this trend I start to think maybe I'm in need of a weight loss plan, or maybe I just like to rig big for a really hot bar.

Does anybody else notice that people rig smaller at the Event site or is it just me?

thanks

RC.......we both weigh 200 pounds + so it's a diet thing first and foremost.

Better wind above Wells to factor, board choice, riding style, time of day to get BACK to sandbar when wind dies....etc...etc...etc....blah...blah...blah. Many variables to consider...even how many pre-sess brews are flowing through your system but if the herd has 8's and 9's pumped on the grass.....I'm pulling a 10 or 12 out of the car. That is just my personal preference but I get smoked by 6M guys on a surfboard daily so there is no secret sauce for rigging but what you feel most comfortable with to toss in the air.......and even some guys like Captain America love a good daily tea bagging session so too each his own. Shocked

I'm more of a beginner so I tend to rig smaller because it's so gusty in the gorge.

I usually rig a size bigger than most of the people I see, and rely on the big depower my kites have. I also tend to ride longer or later into the day than a lot of other people I see out at the Event Site, so I like having the bigger kite to pull me back to the sandbar from the bridge when the wind begins to fade.

Hey Ken,
I was just wondering, but not because of you rigging a 10mtr. I just think that the tendency is for people at HR to rig a size small or so.

A couple of reasons, guessing are, self launch is easier with a smaller kite in stronger winds, or maybe it's beause people are on a bigger board.

My comment/opinion is that for me, 220lbs, I'm on a 12mtr.RPM and a 6-1 Tryant in wind from 15 to19 average. The wind tends to drop down after 6ish...

Anyway, just a question. My other thought is that people tend to congest near the bottom of Wells Isle and not work it all the way up to Swell City. The swell at the City is the best in the Gorge if you ask me. At the end of the day Dangler and i were the only guys up there and it was epic.

It's all good not matter what size you rig but if you want to go up wind you need to have a hot kite and work to get up wind.

Aloha,
R

Trent,
the guy's handle is Inept. It's a sign that he doesn't take himself seriously and almost everything he posts is an attempt to keep things lite and entertaining. he's the first to cop to it.
take his posts in that light....
i may not agree, but i will fight to the death for his freedom to express......

I see on a regular basis guys half my wieght rig bigger then me? kite beach in argentina is about a half mile upwind from where i ride, so if I can get thier you know am powered.
guys thier are on 12m RPM and I am on10m, sure some only got a 12m, but a few got all sizes, I see guys on 7m and a twintip, the some animal goes out on a 13m-15m and is boosting huge airs, and I am thinkin am powered out of my mind on 10m,and a twin, lets not talk about flloaty surfboards that a whole differant deal, personaly I detest the whole 9m and surfboard straples mentallity. the secret agent,
p.s. If you see a guy bustin huge airs on a 12m, and you do not want the same huge airs do not rig 12m its that easy.
