Guy just came in to 2nd Wind trying to sell a stolen RPM complete. He is looking for quick cash and said he might be selling at the event site today.
This was Stu Hill's kite.
Thief Description:
Around 5'7
Dirty Blonde hair
Black "Vans" Hat
Sleeveless Hoodie
Sagged Levi Jeans
Backpack
Was extremely nervous, bummed we let this one slip through our fingers _________________ Less fighting more kiting

Usually, with our consignment policy every consignor has to submit their complete legal contact information, so if any gear turns out to be stolen, we can provide all the necessary information for the Sheriffs office along with the suspected stolen items.
Also, we are usually one of the first places some one calls when they have anything stolen, as this gives us the chance to know ahead of time in case something stolen comes our way.
In the case that we are positive or damn sure someone is trying to pawn stolen gear with us, we either try to stall them and call the Sheriff, or give them a straight up option of leaving the gear for us to return to the owner and they can walk cleanly out of the shop.
In this situation, we didn't put the facts together until right after the person walked out the door. Once we put it all together we ran out of the shop to find the guy and just missed him. We then called Windance to share the info with them, and I drove down to the Event Site to spread the word and see if the guy might be down there (he had mentioned that he only wanted $300 and mentioned he might go to the Event Site to sell the gear to anyone).
Gotta say, we were pretty damn bummed to not have caught this guy. The victim's a local guy we all know.
Keep yer eyes and ears peeled and post anything suspicious you may see on Craigslist or any other listings.

BTW - Note to the guy who came into the shop today.
If we are incorrect about your situation, please PM me or call the shop with an explanation of your selling situation and we will issue a major apology as we were/are off base.
If we are correct and you did in fact take this kite, you have the option of having someone or yourself just come by the shop drop off the kite (complete with no missing parts/pieces) and we will get it back to the owner, no questions asked.
But, you need to do this asap as, Monday, the Police will have a complete description of your features and information. _________________ Pure Stoke Sports

I definitely have to thank Pepi, Brendan and everyone at 2nd Wind Sports.
They went *well* out of their way to help me out in this situation. It takes time to call the police, call other shops around Hood River, post the theft on NW KITE and drive down to the Event Site to spread the word. That's time on a busy SAT afternoon which could of been spent elsewhere and I really appreciate it.
The kite (2010 Slingshot RPM 8M) wasn't left out in the open but it wasn't behind a locked door either. So I take full responsibility for not being more paranoid about where I stored it overnight. Definitely could have taken steps to make myself a less attractive target. Won't happen again.

Guest, that's a lot of gear stolen. sorry to hear it man! I worry every time I kite. We all leave gear in our cars because we can't kite on all of it at the same time. would love to catch these lousy thieves. Worst part is they are probably kiters or they wouldn't know what to do with the stuff. No respect for others. what a shame. Hope you find your gear! |

Damn this really boils my blood. Did they bust a window or take advantage of an opportunity?
My dog is harmless but thank god thieves don't understand. they just see a big black dog sleeping in back.
I'm close in downtown NW PDX. Hit me up if you wanna lament and I'll buy you a beer! |
