* Make sure you wear blue to show your support!
* Public testimony is encouraged, up to three minutes per person!
* Speakers are asked to testify with original material, or to weigh in on points made, but not spend excessive time on repetitive testimony.
Time: Wednesday, September 12, 2012, 5:00pm
Location: Best Western Hood River Inn, Columbia Room
Address: 1108 East Marina Way, Hood River, OR
The anti-cablepark crowd is planning a "float-in" event or whatever you want to call it on Saturday. I keep hearing about how much use the basin gets... just over a week ago, I went by the basin at prime-time... 1pm ish... Event Site was busy with windsurfers, sandbar packed it kiters, plenty of kids playing & swimming at the waterfront park (I walked up there). Number of people using the basin? ZERO, which is what it usually is when I go by. They have all these picks and videos of the basin being packed out... I've never seen it like that... I really think the usage on their part is being exaggerated and the shots are staged. Why is it that the alternative plans for the basin put forth by the "Friends of Hood River Waterfront" all include a kayak rental building?

You know it, I know it, everyone knows it. They've never paid any attention to FACT, and always exaggerated their points. Their strategy is to brand the cable park as evil and trick people into believing it.
D-Krep, follow you instincts on this one.

Just kite in there i know it's crappy wind/crappy water... but load it up with wind users.... maybe we should all rent pole boards and just stand on them...
another option is a few pullies... long long rope... some cones... truck with a driver... handle with a future cable park rider on it...

How about releasing some Piranha's? Seriously, taking video or pics of what the Basin looks like on a normal day (empty) would probably go a long way.

Great idea! Take photos with time stamps on the usual "crowded" days to point out exactly how much use it's getting.
Or go wakeboarding behind the jet ski with Joby _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

Friends of the Hood River video against the cable park.
What a joke, "Salmon jumping like popcorn during spring" "cable parks are a mix of Coney Island and Daytona beach spring break"
Wouldnt want those birds to starve without that insect habitat...
website's all in french but if you look at the album titled eco 38 you'll find an amazing, and scenic park. _________________ BIP- "YOUR GIRLFRIENDS FAVORITE"

Here is a nice friendly message to a friend of mine from Derek Bell. What a nice guy!!
Lots of love in my heart for all but Ian brings out the stinker in me. He needs a good ass kicking some day. I'm not a violent person so it probably won't be me giving it to him. However, with all his big talk from behind a computer I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet! I enjoy seeing his middleschool aged comments.local businesses who already serve more people than a cable park (data given by the developer stated 100-150 per day) (local business already serve 150-200 a day according to their numbers.) the economics of this does not pan out. Anyhow, if i get a bit snippy about this when it comes to Ians moronic comments it's because I have been a freakin pinata for this cause. That's OK. Im a big boy and stand by what I believe in. Narrowing our user demographic on our waterfront will benefit only the developer and some wakeboarders and not the community as a whole. I have seen zero economic data to show me otherwise.
peace out!
Db
This message literally had me ROFL. 150-200 people a day?? Besides the fact that I already gave this dude a verbal bashing to his face at one of the meetings already, I find it funny for him to think I only say shit behind my computer, sorry that was his good friend Brent actually. lol. And Derek if you dont want to be the pinata dont be the main voice behind the cause! And at least fight a fair battle instead of doing it with a campaign of misinformation. _________________ I heart dangling

Wow, what a POS DB is. Sorry Derek, you can't claim to be a non-violent person and then incite violence against somebody. That sentence, Derek, defines you as a coward--not a non-violent person. Non-violent people don't believe in violence; they try to prevent it, not incite it. Cowards try to incite violence that they're too chicken-shit to involve themselves in. Non-violence is a choice, not a fear.
Ian, that message should be posted in the public record with the Port. One of the leaders of the "Friends" is inciting violence against his opponents. That will not sit well with decision makers...
I don't think that video makes cable boarding look all that fun. I do like however that they combine the cable park with the golf course. They seem to go hand in hand to me. Both something I might do when I'm too old to do anything else.
I'd much rather kiteboard, poleboard, ride my bike or or any of the other zillion things to do around the Gorge.
Next we'll have some bumper cars and a ferris wheel down there. Fun Fun.
Has anyone had any conversation with the local golf courses to see about expanding their business model and one of their ponds to put in a cable park?
