forecast today is the same as it has been the last few days. Jones has been going with 10 meter winds by about 4 pm each day.

Yeah, it was really good yesterday... a little windier than Thursday but I was on my 10m both days. For the long weekend, keep in mind its an incoming tide for most of the day. Should turn around at about 4pm today, and a little later Sunday, then Monday. My little graph app shows it to be a pretty strong incoming tide today, so don't be too surprised if you're struggling to stay upwind until the turn-around at 4pm. As Blazeheliski says, that's when the wind has been turning on anyways, so late afternoon should be the time to hit it.

I was planning on a Jones trip this afternoon. Got it good on Friday with the late wind and tide... But the pressure diff today has me suspect. Any experienced predictions out there?

I know the coast is blasting right now. Was out at manzanita yesterday and it was firing... Still a bit unsure about getting in the ocean waters. I read the recent post about "when you are ready for the coast". Apparently the reeds are a right of passage as well as transitioning on a dime. Got the reeds down, but the transitions need some work. Anybody want to help a progressing kiter at the beach?

The temperature Diff is gonna be +14 degrees according to the forecasts astoria->kelso. it's also already reading .02W pressure differential. It should go this afternoon.

I was the one that posted the question about being a beginner at the coast. There was a significant range of opinions on the answer, from "go for it" to "no way".

Here's my update... I went to Jones on Thursday and Friday, and made a lot of progress. On Friday I went to the ponds, and played in the reeds (among other things). Water starts are solid now, and I can hit a good percentage of my transitions. As I made it to the ponds, obviously I can get upwind (to some extent) - at least at Jones.

Since I was already in Seaside with my gear (went there for the weekend after the Friday Jones session), I decided to head out to Fort Stevens and check out the scene. Lots of people there. After watching and talking a while, I decided to give it a shot.

The waves weren't huge, but were short period, so it took me a couple tries to get outside the break. I got my first legitimate airtime popping off one of the waves heading out. Since I was more or less alone at this point, I decided it was best to head back in. Going in is a lot easier than out. By the time I came in I was about a mile downwind at the Lot A access point. I landed my kite and walked back.

Next time (hopefully soon), I'll make sure to go with a friend. Having the transitions absolutely dialed in would make things a lot easier, but I'm not sure I'd call them a necessity. I decided not to try them while I was in the break, since if I missed it I could potentially end up in a worse way.

So that's what I'm going to focus on now...

Mike, were you at Lot B yesterday? I was there too... also my first time in the ocean. Tough at first to figure out the timing to get out, but once I did it was fantastic! Would have been great to see you out there. I did see Matt, Jon, & Boarding Bob all out there tearing it up!

Yeah, I was in the Lot B to Lot A vicinity, from roughly 2:30 to 5:00. Part of the time on the beach, part of the time in the parking lot, part of the time in/on the water (probably more in than on).

It was a sort of spur of the moment trip out there, with some time and logistical constraints. I wasn't sure if I'd actually get in, and decided it was wisest to keep it to a short session (domestic concerns played a large part there, too).

I saw a couple people I know moderately from Jones, but nobody I felt I could impose myself too strongly upon.

Don't feel too bad. That happens a lot here. It did finally get to be pretty solid 12m with some good sets.
