Video from last Wednesday's (Aug. 8th) session @ 3-mile Canyon with Cal. Maiden voyage for the GoPro and kiting @ 3-mile. Great wind (6/7m) and decent swell. We had the place to ourselves. Well worth the drive.

Just bring a honey badger to munch all the rattlers that gather in the shade of pumped up kites! Thumb's Up

You know, that was EXACTLY what I thought when I walked over to launch Steve's kite... can't really tell in the video, but I was so tentative picking up his kite! The video turned out great Steve, can't wait to go back!

Anyone know of any good snake repellant that can be put on the ground?

That's why I let Cal launch my kite. He chose to pump and self launch from the gravel. I am thinking of adding a snake bite kit to my kite gear bag. It's only like an hour or more to the nearest hospital.

PostSat Aug 18, 12 8:57 am    I've killed a Rattler at 3 mile... Reply with quote

I was windsurfing and came up on the beach. Found a juniper bush to keep my fin from getting worked and set my board down. I heard a very subtle rattle that sounded like a hiss. Under the bush I had just set my board on was a Rattler. I walked over took a big rock and killed it. Picked up the body and then buried the head and all in a deep whole.

This 6 foot rattler was under a bush about 6 feet from the water. It was about 90degs or more and blowing so hard I could barely hear it.

Scary for sure,

We were camped out at 3Mile a couple of years ago and my wife goes for a run.
She comes back holding a dead rattler and screaming she had been bit. I start thinking that we are at least an hour from the nearest hospital and start freaking. But she had pranked us and had found the dead snake.

Rattle Snake taste like chicken. Skin, cut into hors d'oeuvre size pieces and marinate in your favorite sauce to enjoy with your pre-dinner cocktail.

What a tragic and completely unnecessary waste....

The windsurfing I mean, I couldn't care less about the snake...

I was raised on a ranch in Idaho.
As a young kid we would kill all the rattlers we would see.
As a teen ager, we were over taken by varmints
Squirrels, rock chucks, mice ets.
They would eat up large parcels of vegetation (wheat, hay, ect)
because the balance was out of whack.

I have more respect for the rattlers place in the eco system now.
They only rattle to tell you to leave them alone.
Now that is what I do.

I dont like to kill anything, to much responsibility and unexpected consequences. Hell, if their is a spider in the shower I will get him to walk on a towel and take him outside.

That goes for vegetation as well, I hike a lot and go out of my way to trample as little vegetation as possible.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you....we are all related, we are related to all THINGS...leave it how you found it...

In regard to the now dead rattler, what would Jesus have done Bulea???

Why kill anything unless it is immediately threatening your life? No need to disrupt the balance.

Reason # 492 to kill things that aren't immediately threatening your life:

Prime rib roast on my Traegar grill. mmmmm. sooo good...

2PM edit: This is where my daydreams go when I've skipped lunch
