I'm currently kiting in Indonesia. I'm originally from Chicago, so I have a wetsuit, but I'll be in San Francisco soon (for 4 days on my return home) and I have pretty limited Internet access. I was hoping I could get some advice on places to go. I don't know what wins conditions to expect windwise, but any advice, local or otherwise is greatly appreciated.

Thanks! Smile

You may want to look into Sherman Island, its in the Bay area. That's all I know about the San Fran area.

Check the BAK forum for sure. 3rd Avenue is one of the most popular places, with consistent wind this time of year. 12m (with a twin tip) is my bread and butter kite there these days with some days more lit than others. (Some friends will be out with 8m on surfboards while I'm on 12m, so don't underestimate it). I wear a shorty here but you could wear boardshorts now. Crissy Field in SF is also consistently windy but a trickier place to kite, cooler water, definitely get local advice on tides and wind patterns if you kite there. My general rule of thumb: fog off the coast, go to Waddell, fog banked on the west hills / gate, go to 3rd or Crissy, marine layer filling the bay head to Sherman. It's been in the upper 90s this week but forecast to cool a little now.

Yeah, I know my homies in Da Hood have been on 6m and will laugh at 12m, but 3rd blows pretty much every day like clock work. Here's our cam: http://arbor-studios.com/thirdavecam.html .

Hit me up for a guided expedition through the bay. We can start riding under the Golden Gate and ride downwind for miles! We can also what spots are working on the day you're here. Boat support rules!

not to mention you can hop into the boat if you start getting chased by the thing that makes seals jump and run...
