Wish I had a pic, but just wanted to say good sesh to all the Jones boys that showed up today. Really mellow vibe, about a dozen of us, and almost everyone knew each other either as friends or from past sessions. Kites ranged from 9m to 12m, I was nicely powered on my 10m. Met Mike, who was kiting Jones for the first time as part of his road trip from San Jose. Took him up to the ponds, which we hit just at high tide... downwinder back was a lot of fun too. We kited till sunset.. pretty awesome day!

Nice. When I am at Jones I would like to socialize with the crew, but you all seem to have 4X4 vehicles. Correct? I usually have to park on the asphalt slab east of you. Can non-4X4 come join in?
Another down-side of where I park is that time of day when I'm loading gear in my car and some off-roadie does a million broadies just up wind of me and fills my clean car with toxic dust. Fun.

wylieflyote let me know when your going. I will pick you up from the asphalt in my 4x4 and we can go park by the other off roaders.

I am not a Jones local but I have kited there a few times.

Very Happy

There are quite a number of us 2WD'ers that just park on the side of the road behind the trees. Shelters your vehicle from dust, too!

Yup, great time yesterday. Disappointed I had to leave at 5 when the wind was just picking up.

I really appreciated how everyone was helping each other.

Kip, a real bonus with a 4wd at JB is you drive out to where you want to rig and your vehicle makes a nice windbreak so you can rig on the leeward side (plus your kite is at least partially shaded).

Another nice bonus is you avoid blowing sand from the quad-riders (mostly on weekends) 'cause they ride behind where you're parked and the side-onshore wind blows their sand away from your parked vehicle. Very nice!

Note: That "sand" at Jones is actually Army Corps of Eng dredging spoils. In the mid-nineties I was w'surfing there during the operation. Large pipes spread out over the entire "beach" with shit/piss flowing out. There is probably a study somewhere about it's toxicity. Down stream from dozens of pulp mills and a major city... oh well.

The Columbia is a dirty polluted river, no doubt about it, that is why I take at least a 1000 mg of vitamin C every day.

Park on the road behind the trees and your rig wont get sand blasted, but limbs do break off those trees sometimes when the wind is blowing and they might fall on your car. It happend to Dekrepit last week no damage though.

I may head out there after work today. The clouds just burned off and the sun is starting to heat things up.

better cause tomorrow looks like the only spots that will be kiteable are those that can handle a north or east wind.
