I have today off, where should I hit? I'd go coastal, but not gonna make my first coastal trip solo.

Just passed Kalama-Rama and it was capping/12m; no kites out yet. Seems windier here in Couvlanistan and the Si phone just said 11 gusts to 18 from 340 degrees/nw. I think it is ON!

503-543-6401; Si minute-by-minute updates.

Gradients are jacked right now for SI (.01 Kelso > PDX). Still could blow latter. That's always the gamble... Twisted Evil http://windonthewater.com/

How did end up going out at SI tonight. Sensors seem to show that the wind held until 8am. I decided against going, but would love to hear out it went.

Also, do any of you know where to get archived wind sensor data for the Scappoose and Fremont sensors? I want take a look at it after the fact.

Sauvie was Sauvie. Steady 12m wind. Rode from 2:30-6. Wind was still blowing when I left.

Well, Jones delivered today... out of my four kiting buddies, not one of them came through... typical lame excuses: "house burnt down", "wife's birthday" or "kid's in the hospital with appendicitis"... but, I went out anyways. Just a few people out... wind was unusual in that it was even across the whole river, not stronger on the Washington side, but the water on that side was butter smooth, lots of fun, nicely powered on my 10m. We all left with the sun setting and the wind still blowing. Gotta love Jones!

Hi all - brand new NW Kite poster MikeZ here. Major newbie.

I was at Jones tonight. I had my 9m and 12m, but went with the 9m since I just got the 12m yesterday, and it would have been towards the top of its range. As a newbie, I figured it was best to be conservative.

The 9m was plenty - at least for me. My best session yet - by far - though I don't have many.

There were a grand total of roughly a half dozen kiters there tonight. I assume everybody was at the coast, which I'm sure was also great.

Any reports from there?

MikeZ

I was at jones... And left around 2:30 with wind at like 2mph... Ended up doing some coastal fun at ft.stevens. Perfect 12m with 2-5ft waves. From the sound of it I missed it by an hour or so.

The best wind of the year so far last night. This cube rat made it out by 6:30 and kited till dark. Not gusts at all!!! ans didn't need to fight up to the ponds cuz the water behind the island was soooo smooth!

Any thoughts on this? Archived wind sensor data for SI and Jones. Is this available anywhere besides Ikite?

sounds like a good idea for an app.

would be cool if all the archived data could feed into a formula so that we can come up with a solid and predictable model based on sensor readings, gradients, temps, tides and cross referenced to actual, on the ground wind speeds that day. that should give us a great forecast tool... wish i could write code.

Too bad the only good sensor for Jones has been out for at least a month. Someone needs to climb up on that piling and fix that sensor and knock off that bird's nest.(shhhh - dont tell PETA)
