Anyone snap a tendon in their calf area? I'm sure that is what happened. It felt and sounded like my calf got hit with a golf ball. Any advice or referrals to specialists in the Portland area appreciated.

Hey barfly, that sucks. Sorry to hear about it.

Dr. Shcaeder--in Tualitin-took care of me after my accident, he did a great job. He also used to be a Blazers doc.

Rebound clinic is also very highly thought of, I believe they take care of the Blazers now.

Good luck, and get back on the water soon!

Dr. Jay Crary or Dr. Scott Woll at Rebound.. 1-503-REBOUND. Both are foot and ankle specialists. I worked at Rebound for 6 years so i'm a little biased. Both of these guys are great surgeons and this is a very common injury.

This sounds like (significant strain or partial tear to the medial gastrocnemius muscles) and can heal up fairly quick

Common to tennis players - got this playing ultimate - swore someone nailed me with a rock in the back of the calf and they could hear the snap 10 feet away

Hurts to put your heal down

A good PT and E-stim, ultrasound, ice and massage did the trick

A few years ago. Pushing a car. Felt like I broke my leg. Was sore for a long time . I never went to get it fixed and I suffer no ill effects. Much more range of motion on the ankle joint.
As I am getting older I just figured my days pretending to be superman are fewer.

Hopefully it is not achilles.

Some warm up & stretching should be done before charging out on the water.

If it is truly in the calf it sounds like a torn calf muscle. If the (achilles) tendon ruptures (completely) it should be impossible to get up on your toes on that foot. Torn calf muscle? 6+ weeks of misery. Look for swelling and bruising dissecting its way down to the foot over a week or so...and good luck. (Torn achilles needs surgery, usually. Torn calf muscle needs lots of TLC--and a good Physical Therapist.)

After going crazy on jumps then running and biking with-out propper recovery/stretching ,ended up with compartment syndrome in my feet. could barely walk. The PTs @ this clinic put back on my feet within 2 days, and back on the water in 1 week.
