the Arlington launch is a very advanced launch with extreme penalties if you mess up.
not for women or children.
first - you launch on the marina side and do a half dozen short tacks to get up wind to get out. very tricky.
it's possible to launch on the river side but people do not because of the slippery rocks.
second - the last one out and first one back in has to self-launch and land - very tricky with limited space options available.
take a strap and a biner.....
for this reason most everyone launches at Roosevelt and kites over to A.
Also - be aware that the swell zone at Arlington is compressed in the front of the grain towers and can be crowded with windsurfers..... |

wow, kochease and i are dumb or lucky. we were there weds evening. wind came up and we rigged wind side of the grain tower. i launched him then self launched, we both just skimmed down the rocks, drug out, then went for it. It was a great sesh, killer swell on OR side and then pretty flat about 2/3'rds to WA. After hearing how people usually do it Im feeling kinda lucky.
the self launch was pretty ick. I usually just tilt the kite into the wind slightly by pulling on the outside line and let it do its thing (typically done on sand). The gravel had a lot of very thornyh 'goat heads', lots of hard/sharp shit, and a very rough paved area. I used rough paved area. Im only giving deets so no one is thinking its a great idea.
We both left thinking 'great sesh, horrible launch'. We just came off the water in Boardman this morning. Launch area was fine, wind from launch is the sketchiest i've ever been in. Would take Arlington over this actually. |

That's "My Boy' MARZECK.
We got it good at TMC and then hit A-Town only to find out we were riding the MARZECK'S Boy Reo , Jason Sleezack , and Fletcher Chainard.
What an action packed weekend that was.......HOLY SHIT BALLS!
I cant wait to see what this week end brings me. |
