I moved out east and want to pick up kiting again, I work in boardman and am looking for the best/closest places to kite at. Ive heard rufus is good and celilo park? Any feedback/recommendations are much appreciated. Thanks! _________________ "Drink triple, see double and act single." |

There were about 15 kiters at 3-mile today. This is a great spot with a huge flat water lagoon and easy access to big swells. |

I will be interested to hear about the kiting in Boardman. I would think that it would be great, a lot of the time, using a 12 or 14M kite.
I remember Pat D. saying that the biggest waves he ever saw on the Columbia River were near Boardman, and I recall that there was rumor that a barge was sunk out in that area, the waves having a lot to do with it. Maybe, that is all BS, but I have windsurfed there, back in the last century, and the wind was steady... the kind of wind that makes kiting fun, even if it is not "nuyk'in". There is one long "fetch" for the waves to build out there.
Please report back on the potential "Jetty Island" of the Gorge. |

3-mile is super close, maybe ill check that out on my way west tomorrow, ive done some bass fishing there, i know where the gravel road is that leads to the boat ramp but didnt see much of a launch spot. Since ive worked in boardman for the last 2 yrs, i havent seen many kiters, figured it was to gusty or too slow of current?, i have jet ski'd the 2 mile wide area though and have doubled some nice 7 footers. Also heard Roosevelt is good too? I guess ill just do some recon until i find some kiters setup. Thanks for the feedback guys _________________ "Drink triple, see double and act single." |

We just rode boardman today. Staying at the campground, launched from the 2nd beach up river of that. Wind at launch was mega sketch, but was great just about 100 meters out and then across the huge river channel (must be a couple miles wide here). We launched before 9a, wind filled in plenty by 11a, launch/land area was much less tricky.
With all of that said, we were the only ones out. Haven't seen another rider here on or off water. So, that could be great or not so great depending on what you're looking for or capable of.
We're riding tomorrow, boardman/3mile/Arlington if you wanna join us |

Arlington/Roosevelt and Port Kelly are my favorite. Roosevelt is great because of the launch/landing area and the winds are super smooth. Port Kelly is up river in the Wallula gap and generates great wind and swell too but the launch and landing are not as smooth. I have seen kiters at sand beach too. It is at the south end of the wallula gap and is at a corps of engineers park with camping. _________________ Team Rider,
