Wed Jun 13, 12 3:43 pmI GOT ME SOME TODAY, YEAH!!!!
Nope, it wasn't Sauvie (although it did go off there today).
I found a new secret spot just 10 minutes from my house!!!
Of course I needed my 19M Speed 3 and LW Wing, but hey, not bad for the 1st sesh of the year.
Sadie over did it and pulled a muscle. That bitch(my dog) doesn't care if she's freezing her nipples off, she still swims out to me.
Great day. One boost and plenty powerful waterstarts and powerful lawn mowin'..
I think I'm gonna have a great year.
Every day is a kite day now!! Well, not really, but more days fo sho!
Cheers,
Channel Marker

I have no idea what that things costs but every YouTube video shows 2 people helping launch...followed by lawn mowing and no relaunch. If that thing hits the water is your session basically done? Do you use that kite for landboarding or something else because it looks about as water friendly as an electric toaster.

For the price of those things you could buy a used paraglider setup, pay for your lessons and still have money for the bar when you were done for the day.

I got mine used for $1250 w/free shipping! SS Turbine $2,149.00, but according to SS it works in lighter winds than the 19M S3 D. I guess you get what you pay for. Both of those kites would be an awesome addition to ANY quiver. Always better to be on the water, right?
It IS a paraglider when you boost
I always launch and land by myself (probably ask 1 person to catch the tip if it's overpowered). Very easy.
I mowed the lawn alot yesterday because when I boosted, it sort of freaked me out. Hopefully today I'll get to practice it. I know for sure I could have gone big every tack though!
I've used it landboarding too.
It's "closed cell" which means when it crashes, the intake baffles close and air then leaks slower. I have about 10-15 minutes to get it back into the air before it's swim time.
If there is wind, it should relaunch fairly easy and quick (reverse or trail down), but I DON'T want to try it, so that adds a little intensity boost to the ole' adrenaline output.
Here's a vid by Paul up in Toronto in 6-8 knots.
Before yesterday I wouldn't have believed it myself!

You need to compare apples to apples. Next year a used Turbine will be 60 cents on the dollar too.....or maybe not....because that kite can hit the water and still float.

Why would you want to worry about that stress during a session? God forbid you crash = tentative kiting. Please film relaunching in the water or call me when you go because I gotta see it in action.

Good for Paul mowing the lawn. See above about water launching a foil that big. I personally think it's misleading advertising that you will just kite around in no wind. Flying in light wind is a hard bitch and a kite that big is going to overfly the window, hit the water....then fold up as it has no real bladders to hold shape as it slowly takes on water while your adrenaline skyrockets and the 15 minute countdown begins.
Blokt I totally respect the effort because that beast is going to take you for a ride during a gust but I predict your Channel Marker title will reign supreme at your secret spot because of your love for foils. For snow...I think they're incredible but for water I just don't get it. Good luck and have fun....I think?

I have been using big FLYSURFERS for the past four years on flathead lake. We have many days of 8 to 12 mph winds. I had a 19 speed 3 and now have a 21. Both kites launch from land and the water easily. I am solo 90 percent of the time and have never had a problem launching or landing by my self. I have had experience with large tube kites and the FLYSURFERS launch much easier from the water than any of the inflatables. They are definitely the best light wind kites out there. Don't get me wrong, I still love those 9 meter Fuel days but the FLYSURFERS are great fun in light wind.
try one out. You might be surprised.

I stand corrected. I've been on a light wind kick ever since Nak reviewed that Turbine but you just don't see foils around so I guess the magic is still pending populous opinion.

if you're in manzo this weekend I'll likely be out on my sa19. forecast look super light, so I may be on land; only need 4mph to get going in the buggy.

Good news!
I found out yesterday that I don't need to worry.
When a lull passed by, right after I boosted, my 19 S3 D fell into the water, leading edge down.
Even though it was on my shore tack, and I could have stood up and done it quicker, I decided to float and give it a go.
That badboy reverse launches better than my 15M S2 S! I couldn't believe that I actually reverse launched a 19M kite in 7 mph wind. NO WAY I say, but it's really true.
Now less stress. I like the Havocs and Fuels too, but foils have spoiled me.
I'll see if I can film it when it happens, if my friend is there with his camera.
I kind of hope closed cell foils never get popular. I like the uniqueness. Last edited by Blokt on Fri Jun 15, 12 2:41 pm; edited 1 time in total

You will always be unique, regardless of kite
How come you aren't making it out to the island after work. Except for the last couple weeks, it has been going off pretty regular. _________________ Lets FLY

We've been missing you too.
1) I'm remodeling our bathroom and I need to finish it because the neighbors are complaining about us using the front lawn.
2)High gas and food prices negate many trips to the island
3)19M S3 D allows for kiting in lighter winds, so I've been sneakin' a quick sesh in at my new spot.
4)Hope to see you soon. We will be out a few times but probably not moondoggin' like previous years.

I went to the airport cuz Curt wanted to go try, but 4 mph gusts was all I got, but at 8:30 it picked up to 5 gusting to 6 and, with that 19, I actually was able to please the crowd with some 6' vert jumps!
