That's really cool Carol! Are you able to kite/launch from that spot? When I went to San Fran last summer we flew in mid-day on a clear, sunny day. Couldn't believe how big the bay was!

Yeah, you can launch there, but it's an advanced launch that gets bigger at low tide. There's power lines right by the beach that forms at low tide and the wind is fluky on the inside so want to be careful. Some guy crashed his kite into the power lines there years ago.

Wow! I didn't realize you guys were still doing that. Is there some type of online journal or something detailing all of the places you've been in the RV?

I go running there all the time and it looks like a sketchy launch...there is a better one south of Coyote Point just north of the San Mateo bridge on E 3rd. Just go south on 101 for one exit and take a left towards the bay..if i remember right there is parking area just before you get the the golf course. (sorry its been a while) Its a bit muddy but there are usually a fair number of people on good days.

Kited 3rd ave 2 days ago. There are 2 launches and we didn't catch the bigger beach upper launch as it was choppy water. The lower launch is shadowed but also produces some flat water for unhooking. We had lots of fun there.
Kited Coyote Point yesterday. It's expert only as the launch is very gusty and difficult. 2 ft chop, obstacles, rock shore with barnacles and 7 m kites so high winds. Really cool to watch the airplanes go over your kite as its under the landing route for San Fran airport. Awesome locals here that show you the launch.
Today we're heading to Sherman for 2 days then back to San Fran.

The riders are Tony, myself, Jake from BEST and Patrick Rebstock.
Enjoy! Started making the next one of Waddell Creek which was an awesome place to ride.
"Is there some type of online journal or something detailing all of the places you've been in the RV?" - On line journal is coming soon. I'm only in charge of the video's.

Mon Jun 18, 12 8:10 am Eagle Lake with Kite Zoombies |
|
|
We caught Eagle Lake, CA with Kite Zombies yesterday and today. Really warm (no wet suit), very shallow ( GREAT for teaching), lots of beach, flat water, and easy to camp on the beach for FREE. Only drawback is the bottom is a little muddy when you stir it up but water is really clean and clear when kiting. I would check with Bill and Anna at Kite Zombies to read the wind forecast but definitely a great place to teach someone to kite (better, wider, and warmer than Floras - no wet suits).

This is our favorite fresh water spot in the State of Jefferson. Winds tend to be frontal with a thermal component which I think is caused be the Black Rock Desert to the east. South winds tend to be more steady than North, at least at the N end of the lake. For a wind forecast use the link on our Eagle Lake page:
http://www.kitezombies.com/airwaves/kite_EagleLake.htm
about half way down that page:
NOAA Point Forecast and then click the hourly weather graph.
It would be awesome to see more kites on the water here! A BLM campground is available at the N end of the lake if you want to escape roadside noise, need water/toilets ($8/night). Mariners Resort is a commercial campground in Stones Landing and offers full amenities including bar/restaurant. Hope this helps...
Check our Facebook page. We try to post when it's good and when we rally: https://www.facebook.com/kitezombies

Geez, we just drove through there yesterday and wish I knew about Eagle Lake! Is it really a decent place for an absolute beginner? I'm planning to take my girl to SPI this fall for lessons as opposed to the Gorge or Bay Area. She says she wants to learn, started getting the hang of the trainer kite in La Ventana, but I want the first on-water experience to be absolutely problem-free (I learned at SPI but had lots of stunt kite and wakeboard and windsurf experience - she has none).
Thanks and safe travels!

When my wife was a beginner ('04) we stopped by on our way to the gorge. Only got one day of wind but she really liked Eagle lake. Have not been back since (head to the Gorge via the coast these days).

SPI wins if you go in April, May, Nov., etc. If you want something cheap and close to drive to, catch Eagle Lake. Its a little muddy at Eagle Lake for falling down in if she is doesn't want to train for mud wrestlihng at the same time. Guys would think nothing of it, but girls might not like it as much.
