Please join the CGKA/CGWA joint effort this Saturday for a work party at Blackberry Beach in Cascade Locks. This area has great potential as a new multi-sport recreation site. With a bit of hard work, Kiteboard access will be possible on both east and west wind days. For those familiar with the area, the launch is even with the red buoy about half a mile east of the Stevenson launch site.

The work party will start at 9 a.m. and will run into the afternoon, with a group barbecue planned at lunchtime.

Bring gloves and brush clearing tools if you have them. A majority of the work at the kite launch area will be clearing low-level vegetation and blackberries.

Directions to the site are as follows:

The site is at the end of Industrial Park Way at the east side of Cascade Locks (turn off of Forrest Lane at Bear Mountain Forest Products). You’ll see signs to Blackberry Beach.

Yes, please come out and show support of this new project. If you haven't been there to check it out, there is great potential as a new launch site.

man, this is killer. im sure the stevie/event site crowd will be really happy to potentially offload some of the portland crowd at their launch to this one. Being a part time pdx'er, i'll be there.

This could be awesome, wind is often better over on that side and water much smoother.

It seems like the kite launch is way far away from the parking though, is that true?

Kite launch is about 5 minute walk down the jetty from the parking area. The jetty is flat soil on top and has already been cleared of brush, so it's an easy walk. The idea behind having it down that far is that it has better wind exposure, is appropriately separated from the windsurfing launch, has better slope to the water and there are small rocks underfoot while launching.
There is a lot of work to do, but the location has great potential to be a sweet new site. To sweeten the deal, there's a long north/south jetty that sticks into water a little east of the site that makes a nice area of flat water.

I just saw this email in my inbox. Unfortunately, my wife is leaving for a girls weekend and I have the kids to watch. I would like to help out being a PDX'er and will probably use this spot some.

Is this open yet or just has the potential to be open if CGKA works on it? Can it be an ongoing thing? As in, I bring some tools next weekend?

Thanks
kt

This launch is not open yes but had some potential if we can get some work done on it. We cleared a large amount of debris and created burn piles, next steps I believe is to have an excavator come in and regrade things and finish clearing the brush.

Some one form CGKA may have more information and pics from the weekend work party.

Does anyone have contact info for who is in charge of this project? I have a tractor with the necessary implements to de-brush and grade and would volunteer time for this new site. Is there access down to the kite spot for a 6' wide tractor?
