If I weren't such a nice guy I would say,
"LOL @ darwinism at work in the NW, just look at the map, cue portlandia etc."
oops, I did.
O well..........
instead, "get a clue you morons, take the vaccine"
& that's from compassion.
these vaccines are not bad, and don't kill.
That is it, no matter what hokey website, bumptious hipster or "wise" hippie you consult.
By the way, you almost definitely already did take it, assuming you ever got a tetanus shot or went to school.
If you need it get it, duh.
PS: Tetanus also sucks, and is a great thing to get vaccinated against if you hit features, bike skate etc. |

The internet is a wonderful thing, but when it comes to medical "research" the internet is not so helpful. The kook sites outnumber the valid medical sites 10 to 1. The crazies saw the value of the internet to spread their warped message long before people who actually know what they are talking about. The sad thing is the general public does not dig deep enough to wade through the crap to get to the valid info. So parents have been shying away from vaccines because of some "research" they saw on the internet and now these kids are paying the price of their parents stupidity. Now the kids get to suffer with illnesses kids delt with 100 years ago. I deal with patients every day that "read" something on the internet and decide not to do the preventative things I suggest. Of course I tell them I understand where they are coming from and I support their decision. But I know that senario the face down the road because of their choice. And it usually is a way more expensive an painful path for them. |

they can kill, just at much lower rates than the disease. Polio vaccine is not given because the side effect rates started passing the chance to get it. |

No! you are not saying.......are you serious? You would like the Government to provide health care ? ?
Inept_Fun, once you get out of school and start working for a living come back and tell us how you really think. Maybe even start a business, hire some employees, and try to earn a living.
I hope your college professors are preparing you for the real world.
And no I am no going to bail you out of your student loans!
Go get your vaccinations, we want you to be around. _________________ Slingshot | Ride Engine |Try before you buy | PM me

??? Ian, terrible? By what standard? I've been all over this planet, and there is no other place I'd rather be treated than in the US. Not just me either. Every international pilot's first goal after getting sick or injured is getting back to the United States. Why? Because we have the best medical system in the world. I've seen the truth of this first hand.
Sure, there are good hospitals in many places around the world. But the overall care in most places doesn't approach the care we get here. I was injured in Osaka, Japan. Oops, it was a holiday. Guess what? Most of the hospitals were closed. Seriously. It was an hour drive to the nearest hospital that was open. Once there, it was hard for me to believe it was really a hospital. Clean, in a homeless shelter kind of way. (As in, not clean.) No nurses to take care of the patients; they were off for the holiday. One doctor.
Obama lied when he rated our health care against other countries. He based his ratings on life expectancy. Sorry, but no health care is going to overcome the lifestyle many Americans choose. A fitter population is going to live longer, and Obama knew that. He lied to help achieve his political ends. What's amazing is how long American's do live on average, given their poor state of fitness.
There are European countries where the health care is somewhat comparable to ours. At the cost of 70% - 80% taxes. Health care ain't free anywhere, at least for those that work. You pay one way or the other. In Europe you pay A LOT MORE than here. Canada? If their health care is so good why do the airlines carry so many Canadians down here for treatment? When I was flying the Canadian routes it always amazed me how many people were coming to the USA to pay for their health care out of pocket instead of utilizing the "free" health care in Canada.
Yeah, yeah, American's fly to other countries for care too, but at nowhere near the same numbers. There are certain hospitals in certain countries where you can get certain procedures done cheaply and safely. Those are just the exceptions that prove the rule.
Ian, you have no idea how good you have it. You have no idea how much better your life is because of these "crappy" vaccines. Try feeding the poor in places where they don't get vaccines. I've done that and the state of the people is heartbreaking to behold. You take for granted the best health care in the world, because you've not seen how bad it is elsewhere. Yeah, Doctors make a lot of money. They should. High pay attracts quality people. Who do you want operating on you? The guy down the street who's too lazy to get a job, or the guy who has excelled his whole life and struggled to get into and through medical school? If doctor's didn't get paid so well, what kind of doctors would we have? Well, I've been to places where they don't get paid so well and I know what kind of doctors they have.
You wonder why people hate on those who won't get their vaccines. It's because those people become carriers for diseases that can kill and maim others. You don't just get vaccines for yourself. You get it to help prevent the spread of disease. We live in a country relatively free of crippling diseases found elsewhere, because of our vaccination program. Take Whooping cough. Sure, at your age it won't be a horrible thing. But without the vaccine you could catch it and pass it on to others. From you, it could end up getting to an infant or elderly person who dies from it. That's the facts of life. By refusing to become vaccinated, you not only put yourself at risk, but you put others at even greater risk. You are rightly pissed at the "Friends" who fight the cable park for selfish reasons, costing the community a great recreational opportunity. How does that compare to someone who won't get their vaccinations for selfish reasons that could cost the live's of others in the community? |

I was more angered by the post of PJC, so sticking up for my POV on the subject. I don't trust our medical system, pills for all, dollars for some...
Might as well create diseases so we can sell vaccinations or medications for them...
That's not to say all doctors are crooked, but anyone who doesn't think there is something fishy going on in the pharmaceutical business obviously hasn't done the research...
Also Im not calling the quality of care terrible, just the general way things work...
BTW Jon, got my degree, the real world better prepare for me... _________________ I heart dangling |

The risk is with the sabin (oral polio) vaccine, which is actually no longer used in the US. The oral vaccine has an extremely low rate 1/750,000 of causing polio paralysis. This is because it is a live virus.
In the US we use the inactivated polio vaccine (Salk), and to avoid any risk of vaccine derived polio. |
