Got an email from down there about an appeal that's going to be filed. Is this about the cable park or related in some way? Would like to help continue my support of the park and if helping this helps that I'd like to know.

Yes, we are planning on appealing this even though we will have to
come up with $3,258 for the City's appeal fee soon, to say nothing
about other expenses.

If you, or anyone you know, would be willing to help us out, please
send checks to: Friends of the Hood River Waterfront, 3018 Dana Lane,
Hood River, OR 97031. For more information contact me at

Thanks.

Linda Maddox is one of the leaders of the opposition of the cable park. She's a very nice lady who's spent many years fighting for recreation on the Hood River water front. She's mostly responsible for the Waterfront Park. I spend a lot of time talking with her, so she's very aware of the recreation the cable park will provide for kids all over the area. Which is what she says she's fighting for, but its clear she's not really in touch with what kids want.

The opposition's strategy is to ignore common sense, refuse to compromise, and bog down the process until it becomes too expensive to continue. Right now the City of Hood River can hardly function properly because they're preparing to defend themselves in court from a law suit brought on by the "Friends".

Hopefully, this appeal won't be granted.

When I first heard about the Hotel/Building my reaction was to push for it to be denied without there being something in it for the people here. My thoughts were, we have to force the developer into building a cable park. Now, thanks to the "Friends", we've all been bent over without any chance for recourse. The hotel and building will be passed, but the cable park denied.

Yeah Forrest thats the real issue, how could they possibly be ok with the development but not ok with the cable park? That makes absolutely no sense, I am definitely not for the development there without the cable park...

so because of the opposition, they are going to have a hotel and no cable? that seems backwards. shouldnt they be fighting the hotel, and supporting just the park? it would be another nice park on the waterfront...

LOL

If the development does not fit your needs you are against it. This is exactly how the anti-cable park folks "think".

There are a lot of other places a plain old hotel can go, but a hotel that will turn into something special when it has a cable out its front door, thats something worthy of the Hood River waterfront. There are plenty of things in hood river that I never use, and never tried to make them not happen. So I would definitely say its not the same at all.

The Hotel is going to change the sandbar from what it is today, and building the cable makes up for that, no cable, means just another hotel hotel, and a lot of lame tourists coming to the sandbar to ask me about those kite things all summer.

having no real insight into the internal workings or dealings of all this i really shouldn't have an opinion on this. I always kind of thought the cable park was a carrot on a stick to get a green light for a hotel. Im sure the developer would have followed through and all that with the park, but it is really about the hotel. As I understand it, there have been lots of folks trying to add a hotel to hood river and also that Naito has been trying to build theirs for a while. Apparently HR stays booked up through the summer. I noticed Best Western under construction adding some rooms over the winter. Its amazing to me that all of this hotel stuff, and the city of HR with so much to offer isn't getting anything more than additional capacity for tourists (and of course additional tourist generated revenue), because of some seemingly very selfish people. That cable park would have been killer. Fingers crossed that it'll still happen after the salmon study and all the other bogged down stuff.

Well, honestly, they may just have a point.

I'm mean, come on... who would want to have fun down there, seriously?

Something recreationally fun, environmentally friendly, family inclusive and more affordable than windsurfing, kiteboarding, kayaking or SUPing?

Why would we want to let anyone do that?
That would be completely reckless of us as a community to allow that to happen......Rolling Eyes

I'm protesting this ridiculous, and TINY opposition by BOYCOTTING the KAYAK SHED where this asshat DEREK BELL works.

As long as he works there I'll advise anyone to BOYCOTT THE KAYAK SHED.

The fact that such a TINY number of individuals can exploit bureucratic bullsh@t to stop a project with overwhelming support is an example of whats wrong with this country.

SHOW YOUR SUPPPORT WITH YOUR WALLET!!!

BOYCOTT THE KAYAK SHED.

And if anyone knows where this Linda individual works or does business, I'd certainly BOYCOTT that as well.

Those "lame" tourists spend money in town, eat at the local pubs and stay at the hotels in town.

Those "lame" tourist may have legit interest in kiting or even a cable park.

It don't hurt to be friendly to tourist at the event site.
