Sun May 20, 12 12:02 pmGin Guru, anyone riding it?
I'm about to buy new kites. I´m a total noobie when it comes to kites, so I´m looking around trying to form my own opinion regarding different kites. I just read and watched a promotional video about the Gin Guru here:
the most well designed kite on the market
Seems interesting, but still would be nice to hear your opinions

Lots of GIN kites in Australia when I lived there a few years ago. They looked and felt like nice kites. They were very popular locally. Have not seen one since I have been back in the states. Last edited by Ryan on Sun May 20, 12 12:13 pm; edited 1 time in total

The most well designed kite on the market? (I'm just guessing they mean the best designed kite on the market... ) Nothing in that link points that way. I'm not saying it's a bad kite, but there's no information given that lives up to the title. In particular, I'm not a fan of the safety. There are those that use only a suicide safety, and that's fine for them. But this kite gives no other option for the rest of us. Plus, if you are only running a suicide safety, you really should have "Oh Shit" handles on the steering lines, this does not. It just seems that if they're going to make such a broad statement they should back it up with more information. Just saying...

I have flown the zulu and thought it was an amazing kite. The construction is like no other. Unlike some companys gin would not release a piece of crap there kites are tested and tested before releasing. A bummer that its hard to find a demo. Gin has been designing kites and paragliders longer than most and have there kites dialed. But like mentioned above the bar needs some work. The safety does work really well. If you can try before you buy or rip on the kite. "jonpnw" just sayin

Wrong Forum. Go to the kook forum and ask Dimitri.
The safety system for the control bar looks a bit weird. If you pull the second release, then you´ll lose the kite, right?

Actually i think the release is pretty slick, a good idea, but not quite there yet.
it looks like you attach your leash to the chicken loop. when you release the kite it drops onto a single front like like many bar systems on the market, but attached to the chicken loop instead of the leash. then to completely release, you use the release that line to disconnect it from the chicken loop vs use the release on the leash like most kites.
Pros:
when hooked in, both primary and secondary release are in the same place
Cons:
when unhooked you still need a release on the leash
when unhooked, you are leashed suicide style
secondary release is pretty small and might be hard to find in a panic
if the leash could attach to a cleat style below the back depower line, then the suicide part would be fine, but your still left with having to think which release you need to use based on whether you are hooked or unhooked. Makes training yourself to do something without thinking hard.
