I was there yesterday (Monday) at about 1:30 and the wind was going off... beach was one gigantic sandstorm. Ended up going to a place called "Willow Grove Beach" outside Longview. Easy launch and nicely powered on my 10m all day. Never heard of the place before, seems like a good spot, especially if its too windy at Jones.

willow grove is really the longview version of Sauvies, you get skunked a lot. I wont talk about the people that hang out there. yesterday looked like a huge jones day, kind of a unique day. i wouldn't count on willow going off much.

I rarely go to Jones, but I always use the +10mph rule when looking at the sensor readings. . .kinda like Rooster out in the main channel.
Jones is wide open, easy access (hell, one can drive right up to the water) and typicallly stronger winds for the lower Columbia and it really is a pretty spot. I would go more if it had any swell.
Glad to hear people charging it. This weather reminds me of 03' - 06' season conditions, so far.

The sensor is mounted on the house with the blue metal roof over in Nuclear Alley (Wa Side). Because of the trees, I've found that the "gusts" indicated on the sensor as a fairly accurate reflection of the on-the-water experience.

i'll say this, both the sensor and the forecast look a little more dialed than last season.

From Longview, take highway 432 west. If it helps any, 432 is located in SW longview, very close to the bridge. Follow 432 until you see Willow Grove Rd on your left. There should be a small sign for the park. Now just stay on Willow Grove Rd until you come to the park turn off on the left. You'll see the boat launch area turn-off first, then the park turn-off. I'm going to post two pics, one of the where the park is relation to Longview, the other where the "kite area" is...?? I'm just making the latter up... no one told us "kite here", it was just the spot where there were not a lot of people.
OG is right, and I'll go ahead and be not-so-politically correct (sorry whoever) but yes, some of the local crew at the park are more than, shall we say, a little bit sketchy? Keep in mind this is a busy park, complete with Jet-Ski goers, and to rig up where we did, you have to walk through an "off-road" area where people are roaring around the sand in 4-wheel drives. That all being said, we had no problems whatsoever. No one bothered us, except when my friend stepped on the grass above the beach. The current is super strong, be careful.
