I have 4m line extensions on one of my bars that I would like to remove, but the loop to loop connections are very tight now. Is there a way to get the connection to loosen up without compromising the material? I can use a couple pairs of needle nose pliers to pull them apart but that tears the loops a bit.

Would soaking the connections in water for a while help?

I had a knot in one of my lines that I had to get out, it had been pulled really really tight. Best solution I found was to carefully pry each side of the knot apart, working a tiny bit at a time using my fingernails and a plastic guitar pick. At first it seemed hopeless, but I just kept at it, and eventually it came out.

A wise old Wind Slither helped me out with this problem once; it works really well. Use a hammer with a smooth head and gentley tap/pound the knot your trying to undo. Hit the knot gently from different angles. Pound the knot on a smooth surface like a river rock or smooth piece of steel. You may have to cajole the knot a bit once it has had the hammer treatment (needle or smooth finish nail are helpful for picking into and prying out the knot).

I thought my knot was hopeless. But it only took me a few minutes to work it out.
I didn't have a hammer, but I did use something similar (beer stein). I didn't hit it hard at all, I just tried to deform the knot a bit to loosen it enough to use my finger nails and teeth to finish it up. Running it under hot water did seem to help as well.
