Does anyone know where one can purchase wave fins for a directional kiteboard much larger than a 5" fin?
Enabling a big kitesurf board to go upwind in realy light wave coast conditions.
FCS,NSP,nor Future Fins carry them.

We've ordered some FCS Fish style fins in the past for customers, but you have to be very careful with these as going any bigger in fins tends to overload the finbox quite a bit, specifically with the leverage that kiteboarding induces on the fins.

PM me or call me at the shop (541)386-4464

Thanks

Stringy has made some future fins that were basically scaled down race board fins. Not sure how fun they would be for waveriding vs. pure upwind performance.

I haven't really seen anything on the market like you're asking for (I've looked).

A big twin fin keel will give you good upwind. If you have a quad, 4 of those suckers will rip upwind, but feel too tight for actually riding the wave, I think.

Personally, I'd go with a 2 big fish keels for really light wind wave sessions...feels nice and loose and less drag will help your upwindability.

That said, if it's light enough at the coast that I'm worried about staying upwind I'm either going surfing or doing a downwinder

Slingshot Coupe sports 5 1/4 twins. Looking forward to trying it ths spring. Adds says you can ride the fins upwind and still surf.

Four fins go upwind better than three fins

But quads are generally looser than Tri fins.

I have any number of quads from straight rocker & hard rails as well

as quads w/ full rocker & soft rails. Versus the tri or penta fins I have,,,

the least tight board by far is the quad w/ full rocker and soft rails compared to my

tri w/ full rocker and soft rails. Both made by the same manufacturer in HR.

The Tri carves , better for bigger wave sections. The Quad is constantly changing

directions, good for smaller wave sections you want to disect and shred.

The hard railed quad w/ no rocker will either hold an extreme edge ( my highest jumping board ) , or not (you can release the edge easily) depending on what you want.

My Recc for the coast is a Tri, For the river is a Quad.

Getting large fins can be a challenge. I'm running Future Fins on all of my boards except for one, and the largest I have found are the Pancho Sullivan Signature fins. Pretty large, at 17.5 square inches of surface area. Haven't found anything larger in a Future Fin.

I found some large fins from a supplier in England for my Slingshot board with the mini-tuttle fin boxes.

Link is here. www.k4fins.com

Or, you can go full custom. This guy will make you a custom set of fins to your specifications.

I've made some experiMENTAL fins in the past. I'll look for them and post a pic or two. I don't claim to be a fin designer or what have you, but wanted to play around and see what would help making an average board a little more competitive for racing.
anyhow I'm going to mess around with some mini tuttle race inspired fins this spring.
FYI the slider fins are pretty cool too. they're the talk of the town up north in seattle.
