I have never kited at Sauvies but starting to get the itch. Should have brought my gear to work today, anyhow.
How bad is the car break in situation? Do I need to buy a Rottweiler and sit him in the front seat to protect my $hit from being ripped off.
Anyway to drive onto the beach? forgive my ignorance, never been to Sauvies

No need to drive on the sand Jerp. It's probably 50 steps from where you park to where the water is.
The problem is that there is a big berm between the parking and the rigging spot, so you can't see your car while you are kiting.

I'd say that yesterday qualified as the first official day of the year. Solid 12m winds, and a few guys were on 9's. Great day at Sauvies for sure.

hey thanks guys for the info. one last question, what is the best online resource for checking on the tides around that area?
I use protides but wondering what is better site for checking PDX tide conditions.
I see conflicting high/low tides for st. helens and kelly point. I'll assume st helens is the most accurate and would be the best info for the corridor between sauvies and kelso.
thnx stringy

Tides aren't typically an issue until later in the season after the snow melt. That's when the river starts to actually flow backwards toward portland on an incoming tide. The tide site that's closest to SI kite beach is Knapp Landing, Washington.
