Only if I'm there. I made a deal with the devil, and I always get to kite or sail on my Birthday!

Pics of riding NW wind out on the channel. Added beer points for pics of the early season car-jack freaker pacing back and forth on the grassy dike while waiting for you to hit the water.

Looking at the wind sensor - it looks like there were maybe two 30 minute windows.........typical Sauvies goodness - LOL

i havent been to SI since they installed the SI Light 13 sensor. Do you guys consider it to be an accurate reflection of what is going on at the beach?

No. It's on the predominant wind's lee side of a big line of trees. Both wind sensors at SI are placed in locations that are excellent if you don't care much about wind.

hey guys, I'm wondering what is your best resource for forecasting wind for PDX?
I'm set with gorge, coast and jones as Ikite handles this pretty good but wondering how to better forecast for PDX/couve/Kalama corridor?
thx-stringy

For sauvies I think people concentrate all of their hopes and desperation into a single focal point and will the wind into existence.

For the northern part of the corridor Kalama/Woodland you should look for a North wind forecast in Kelso. I've found that an 8mph+ forecasted North wind in Kelso (via noaa.gov) will generate a kiteable wind in Kalama or Woodland. Woodland also tends to go off on days that Sauvies is going, and tends to go off a little more often than Kalama.

it's a tough call, but the following are all good signs.

NNW wind forecast in the double digits
(iwindsurf scappoose table)
http://www.iwindsurf.com/windandwhere.iws?regionID=217&siteID=497&Isection=Forecast+Graphs

solid N gradient (.06 and up) with some W gradient.
iwindsurf or Windonthewater
http://www.iwindsurf.com/windandwhere.iws?regionID=216&Isection=Pressure+Report

North Pacific High parked just off the central oregon coast, with decent NW winds on the north coast
(intellicast)
http://www.intellicast.com/National/Wind/WINDcast.aspx?region=eug

lots of opinions, but i only go when the intellicast wind map looks correct, and gradients are good early in the afternoon.

oh, and forget the on-sight reports. if it's blowing, it'll poop out before you get there. if its glassy so you don't go, it'll pick up and you'll hear all about it from the mayor
