That was interesting. I wonder how well that would have worked on a TT. Seems like the extra surface area and flotation of the Surf probably let him get that plane going while holding a person. Watching them hang on to him while being dragged was kind of funny.

Some crazy mad skills from PR doing that. "Here grab on and I'll drag your ass out of harm's way...strapless." Total stud.

That's a big-time rescue. You go in there knowing you may get tangled in the whole mess of lines/leash/panicked victim. Wow. Skill and big cojones.

I saw Ken Winner perform a similar feat in the early days at Stevenson. A girl got into trouble on the far side, someone grab her kite and rode it in.

Moments later Ken comes roaring across with the girl. He was on a twin tip, she was holding on to him, and going so fast she was flying horizontal.

Coolest thing I'd seen on a kite up to that point.

Until coupla summers ago when Tak and Amery were shoulder hopping, Tak on Amery's shoulders with Tak doing a back roll dismount.

Too funny.

The kind of guy you want around if you get into trouble.

That's a great thing about riding in the gorge as well. If your in trouble (and it happens to every one eventually) the better riders go out of their way to help out. Makes you proud of being part of sport and community where people look out for one another.

Yes!

That seemed like a good call to get the person to hold on to your shoulders to get them all of the way out of the water. (Although, the savee, looked to be on the smaller/lighter side.)

Times when I have either saved or been saved the person in back was dragging in the water and the strain on both the rider and the dragger is huge. Both come out exhausted and way down wind.

Nice!
With all the BS we have to put up with in this sport ranging from stupid forum fights to beach access issues and kiteloops 10 feet from swimmers; this makes it all worth it. A nice display of selflessness and sportsmanship.

Well done.

amazing rescue!
I'd love to hear the audio on the water.
rebstock- "grab my waist I'll pull you to safety"
downed kiter- "but you're strapless"
PR- "I'M PATRICK REBSTOCK BITCH!"

when I watched the video I thought that is how superman's cape would look if he kited!

Patrick should have a cape and a superhero name, something like "Kitesurfman"

I had finished a session at Stevenson one day and noticed a Kiter down with a deflated kite I watched him try and swim in for over 20 min with a bunch of riders out ignoring him. I relaunched went out brought him back to shore him and his kite. his parents watched an were very thankful. When I see somebody crash the first thing I do is ride close enough to see that everything is a ok. I knocked myself out cold in la ventana and some guy on a north kite picked my head up out of the water just as I was coming to. Prob saved my life. Never got his name but thanks mr north!
