Considering a Rally quiver. I have heard great things, but many comments I have found on here are from wave riders who love the depower.

I'm wondering if any riders with experience on a Rally would think it is a good choice for a ...

- Decent sized guy who needs some low end grunt
- Non-wave rider (or at least not at this point due to geography)
- Mellow riding style
- Small hooked in rolls and jumps

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

The Best Kahoona's might also be a good choice based on your list of requirements.

To those I would add super easy relaunch and amazing low end.

No brand vs brand on nwKite. You need to limit your responses to Slingshot options since the OP asked about Rallys.

Rally vs RPM:
The Rally is faster, gruntier, more range, less stable, less forgiving. Not that it's bad when it comes to stability or a forgiving nature, it's just that the RPM is better in those areas. No matter how bad I screw up with an RPM, it just floats back in to the window. If you're slow to dive the kite coming down from a jump the Rally might fall rather than float back. Jumps on the Rally are easier to initiate and floatier than the RPM. Upwind on the Rally is better. Let go of the bar on the RPM and it just sits there, the Rally starts to fall almost immediately. Bigger sizes definitely favor the Rally. The RPM is more stable during self launch with an anchor.

I haven't tried the smaller Rallys because I just love the small RPMs. 14m Rally is an awesome light wind kite, the 14m RPM not near as good. I'm going with Rallys in 12m and 14m, RPMs 8m and below. My 10m is up in the air till I demo some more. (Currently an RPM.) A 14m and 10m Rally would be a great travel quiver. (12m and 8m or 9m for 180 and lighter riders...)

As far as the riding you mentioned in your post KiteDuck, I think you'd be happy with a quiver of Rallys! Very Happy

BvB is prohibited but unfortunately for locals b/k vastly outperforms s/r n meye xp. Can not go wrong with A Kahoona mid to high end. For Lo End have not found the Pfect kite yet although my 09 Bularoo has been the bst so far making up the difference. Only problem is you will pay half price Buying Best even though material for both come from china
U will find SS gets lots o love being a local brand on this forum but I would suggest taking ALL advice with a grain O salt and demo before you buy

Better advice was never given. Thumb's Up

The brand vs brand rule is not mine, but the owner's/moderator's of this forum. They have enough work to do, out of the kindness of their hearts, without us making it worse. Don't you think? Nobody is stopping anybody from starting a thread about whatever kite they want to. I think Best makes great kites; if you don't think they get the love they deserve, start a thread. Kiteduck asked a question & deserves a chance to discuss it without his thread being locked.

BTW, $1718 is not "half" of $1949... Actually it's 88%.

Kiteduck, sorry but I'm guessing your thread will be locked soon. Not your fault at all. Anyways, there's lots of folks that have ridden Rallys and love them; I'm sure you would too. K4L is right though, I'd highly recommend demoing before you buy. Everyone has slightly different taste and performance requirements. Once you get it narrowed down to two or three kites that you like, try and demo all of those on the same day/conditions. A new quiver is a bunch of money & will last you a long time. It's worth the time to get what you'll be happiest with.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I had a full Rally quiver in 2011 (6/10/14) and in 2012 I have the 10 and 14. I think the kites meet all your requirements above.

-I'm 180lbs, they work fine for me. The 14M is a fast large kite and provides plenty of low end grunt. If you are much bigger than me and do a lot of light wind kiting, maybe consider the Turbine as your large kite. Pump your Rallys hard.

-I like the waves but am predominately in flat water or chop due to geography. The kites are a blast.

-Mellow, sure. You can get wild with them but if you just want to mow the lawn or ride slicks, they are up there to serve you. Stable when you need it, wild when you want it. I got real used to the direct connect bridle (no pulleys) and when I tried a new RPM recently it felt a lot different. You will feel the gusts a little more on the Rally due to the direct connect, but the kite is very stable so it's okay. I really like the feel of them in the sky.

-Perfect for jumps/rolls hooked in. You can go big if you want to, but they also provide that kind of easy "cheat" jump where you can just do a short send of the kite from 11 to 12, pull the bar in, and up you go.

Let me know if you have other questions. The only change I made in 2012 is I went to a 7M RPM instead of keeping my 6M Rally. I thought the jump from 6 to 10 was too big.
