We all know the Columbia River water is kind of "shitty", but it just got a little worse:

This is a good post to make, and we should all pay attention to see if there are any updated water quality reports for our area.

Hopefully the amount of sewage leak was contained well enough that the dilution factor will eliminate our having any emergency water quality issued here in the Gorge area.
But, you never know.

If anyone has any updates, please post.

Ken?

Not going to let 500,000 gallons of raw sewage slow you down...

When I first started visiting Hood River 5 or 6 years ago from Idaho and saw the glaciers and the fish jumping I didn't think it was any big deal to swallow a palm-full of water during long sessions lol. Then again, I am from NJ, which incidentally has some of the nicest and cleanest beaches in the world (have to give them their props). Purposefully drinking river water has changed throughout the years. When we're all in our 70s, if we live that long, we're all going to be sitting in support groups with goiters and parasitic twins hanging off of our faces saying, "remember when."

Problems in the water and there's even more problems out of the water. Ice storm damage (downed trees & branches) has created a huge meal for our next nemesis, the Douglas-fir Bark Beetle. These little dudes love chewing on fresh downed trees and then they swarm all over the surrounding green trees. Forest Service is doing nothing about this huge problem, also doing nothing about the wildfire threat on public lands in the gorge...

Maybe it's time we all move to Maui.

It's nature's way - why should man interfere? Maybe the Bark Beetle serves a purpose.

In small numbers, Bark Beetles serve a very important role in a very natural process. In huge outbreaks (such as what happened after an ice storm in Idaho) these pesky cridders can destroy an entire forest. The scenic area needs to be protected from such an outbreak.

Wildfires are natural and serve a purpose too, but we should practice wildfire prevention especially when human lives and property are in the path.

Yo memory lane - we used to kayak those orange rivers back in the day - would just sit in an eddy and sadly stare at the orange rocks
