Any suggestions for a place to stay in North Carolina for a few days in April? I'm traveling with my family so I'm looking for a hotel or rental area that the kids can play in the water and I can kite from walking distance. Flat water is preferred.

thanks for any ideas.

Where in North Carolina are you going? Cape Hatteras is the best choice.

I have a trip to Raleigh but will take an excursion for a few days. I know Hateras is supposed to be nice but have no idea where. Hopefully there is a good kite location map or something like that. Or, maybe someone has a friend with a rental there.

Real and KHK both have water front family friendly lodging that you may like and will work for a long weekend. The KHK properties have a pool and hot tub, plus a full service bar/restaurant upstairs and a coffee shop downstairs. So, that may offer a little more for the non-kiters while you are on the water. Real has a huge lawn, though and is a little more of a nicer launch/land scene if you are renting there. Plus they have the slick nearby. You can't go wrong with either, though. Or check VRBO for any soundfront rental that has pictures of clean non-canal water access.

Good luck.

Real & KHK are great - You can kite right out front & there are places to eat right there too. They are on the North end of the island (Waves, Salvo). Convenient for a quick quality trip. However, if you want to explore a little more, there is a public beach in Avon & Frisco. House rentals are super cheap - There are a number of rental home companies. I'ved stayed in Buxton, Avon & Waves - but ended up in Waves at KHK almost everyday - they have a public pay ($5) launch that is really well done...with compressors.

Restaurants: Good Winds at KHK, REAL has a snack place. Board Wok - in Waves. Dirty Dicks in Avon is family friendly - awesome shrimp & grits.

M.

PS. DONT SPEED - the cops are harsh.
