Didn't realize legendary windsurfer Finn Mullen wasn't riding the board in the shot - was hoping he made it - video shows the epic destruction

Gman,

I fully agree with your subject line for the really big stuff. Kitesurfing will never even come close to what surfers can do with tow-in or even paddle in with guns in the triple overhead plus realm. Riding in the trough of a big wave trying to outrun it is not surfing it contrary to what some kiters might believe.

However, in the small to medium size stuff with strait onshore thru side-off wind conditions, surfers look like pathetic losers compared to what a competent kitesurfer can do especially with wave count. I have surfed for decades now and can barely muster a handful of waves after a 2 hours session riding a shortboard. When kitesurfing the same time period will yield 10X that wave count on top of having a blast heading back out thru the surf which is absolute misery paddling a shortboard.

Pick the best tool for doing the job!!

Question Question Question

Funny - I was saying windsurfers rule the big stuff - didn't think I would see em get barreled - didn't realize there was no rider in that shot - ghost rider is all lined up- still wicked tho

Did get to watch 5 of the best windsurfers in the world getting crazy top to bottom turns at jaws on 30 to 40 ft faces - mindbending skills - those guys were the pioneers even before people thought to tow

No one's really throwing amazing turns in truly massive waves -- tow, paddle, windsurf, or kite.

The difference between the first 3 and kiting is that there's not many kiters out there who commit to riding the critical section of XXL waves. I don't care how many fancy turns you do if you're 30 feet out on the shoulder.

To come close to what surfers do on a regular basis one must nut up and get shacked! Darn barrel dodgers.
