SNOWKITERS!!

After deliberations and hard work with the town of Fairfield, unfortunately due to timing, logistics, and circumstances outside of our control, we can not hold Kite Soldiers 2012 in a formal way.

We are confident in a resolution that will yield an amazing event in 2013, so we'll take all this work and apply it to next year's event.

We will be in Idaho snowkiting during the weekend of February 25th and/or the weekend of March 3rd depending on conditions, so come kite with us.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. If you’ve made plans, we encourage you to keep them. Idaho snowkiting is epic! You don’t want to miss it!

LOOK FOR US IN 2013 BECAUSE WE ASSURE YOU WE WILL BE BACK AND WILL CONTINUE TO FLY THE SOLDIER FLAG!!

Monty & Trisha

Definitely bummed about this news but is it just me or is your picture selection funny? "It's cancelled.......high five!!!!" Just saying. Hoping this event gets back on track for 2013 as kiting this nugget of Idaho potato is quite tasty and about the closest legit area for nwkiters.

This Idaho kite stoke had me amped for Soldier; http://www.nwkite.com/forums/t-25116.html

Ohhh! Bummer that there is no Kite Soldier for 2012. I am sure that Monty and Trisha tried everything to make it happen. Oh well. NEXT YEAR!!

Please don’t despair for this season. The snowkite conditions are fantastic right now. The BigMt SnowKite FreeRide has been travelling around the past few weeks for some epic snowkiting in Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah. Kiting with lots of people, handing out 100s of swag items, and awarding cool prizes. Our plan is to still go to the Fairfield area around the 24th, kite where the wind and snow is best, and ride with everyone that shows up.

That's a bummer Trisha and Monty! You guys always put on a great event as usual, I'm sure the logistics and bottomline isn't worth the stress. I truly hope to see SKS back in 2013!

Currently the condtions are very good (Snowpack for Malcomson to Last Resort are excellent). Kiters yesterday were rewarded with a " it doesn't get any better than that" day. Some were out as long as 7 hrs with one quick break! Aaron Sales and I logged over 35 miles of wicked terrain; 1000' long glides, cliff drops, rock bonks, natural kickers, linking powder turns, and one wet fried phone:(

Event or no event, come visit the Camas Prairie this year.

Btw, If you are a first timer out here, parking can be and issue at some riding locations. If neccesary, park as smart as possible and communcate with others to maximaze space. Also, please keep your distance from the highway, distracting motorists could cause a serious accident. Any small donation to the local snowmobile club wouldn't be frowned upon.

It Just Ain't The Same....without you two here. Wink

The snow came late and it's still way warmer than usual.

I blame it on the Hawaii-effect of your absence.

But, we'll see ya soon and please bring some snow.

I'm wearing it thin with all my bomb-holes. Rolling Eyes

Montana Snowkite Rodeo in Jackson, Montana is this weekend, Feb 18 - 20! There is no snowkite event in the world that is based out of a bar with a natural hot springs, except the Rodeo, so go get some!

Hey Noah,
Do we need to reserve a room at the hot springs hotel? Please give more details of the Rodeo setup. It sounds awesome.

Yeah, Bob I got some more lip balm for ya.

Rooms are all reserved by now. I'm drinking in the bar, soaking in the pool and sleeping in my truck.

Now, don't shoot the messenger, but we are receiving the same warm/wet weather as you guys down here in Fairfield, ID. It's been blowing over 110 mph above 9,000 feet for the pass 24hrs. The snowpack has turned to a rain saturated glop of soup down on the Prairie, not to mention driving down the side roads is like being in a tractor pull race. We did receive more than a 16" in above 8,000 feet. Avi/weather conditions are to unstable to venture out just yet. Thursday and Fridays weather will determine if conditions will improve, but as current conditions stand, snowkiting will be very wet and heavy down low, or worst solid boilerplate. I have a few clients coming in next weekend, so I will be out reconing areas north of SV. Please feel free to contact me in regards to other kite locations this up coming weekend.

Actually, today was a ton of fun, some people mobbed soldier mtn ski hill in the am, then rallied out to "Last Chance" for the afternoon session. Lot's of stoked people even thou the snow could have been better. Even saw Trish hitting it right before sunset. Tmrw still is forecasted for snow, even thou the stars are out tonight. Look out thou things might get a little weird out at the Hill City Saloon. Their new saying is "Help your Elf" with a snowkiting Nom t shirt....Now available only in Hill City, Idaho.
