Scored a snowkite weekend of pretty sick blue bird. Coverage is decent and snow was 6.5 out of 10!
Wind > Buttery 12-15kt
Kites > 13Fuel/14RPM/14Rally/12RPM/13REVII
TIME TO SNOWKITE! Keep your eyes on the forecast... Even next weekend looks like possible riding???? Storm during the week and then clearing for the weekend.
Leave HR by 5am get to Sledpark by 12:30pm. Leave sunday by 2:00pm get back to HR by 9:30pm. Just sayin...

There's a big cabin owned by Steve Claridge about 6 miles from town that sleeps up to 10 for $100 a night.
I don't know his number though, check with Brad Gordon--he's stayed out there before.

What drives the dominant prefered weather in the camas valley? Pre frontal? Post frontal? Pressure differences? Thermal?
West wind in the flats and the snowmobile park, east wind up at last chance...but what about good north and south wind spots?
Thanks in advance.

The best answer is, it depends: W and E are primarily thermal and pre/post frontal winds. S & N winds rarely exist in pure form due to the orientation of the prairie heading West to East. Most wind is a combination of SE (typically light) prefrontal and NW (typically strong) and are held in the 'icebox' known as the Camas Valley.
It really creates its own winds aloft because of the Sawtooths/Smoky's on the N side and the Snake River valley on the S side which traps cold air in a vacuum which then flows up the mtns at night and down the mtns during the day.
I'm no metereologist, but snowkiting and reading these winds for years gives you a good understanding of what's happening in the air above the mtns. Its kind of like any other plateau, the wind smoothly floats through the area uninterrupted by jagged peaks or drastic variations in terrain.
Short answer: it blows b'c it does and we kite cause we can. Go get some!

Thanks, I appreciate your input. Local knowledge is priceless.
whats your take on the crazy high pressure taking place for the next two weeks or so? I'm hoping to head out, but haven't seen such a huge ridge in the last three years.
thanks again.
