Looks like we have sunny skies and strong east winds the next couple of days. Last week I hit the ponds at Clatsop spit and that was pretty good, but the 2 hour drive from Portland kinda sucks. Rooster would be nice, but I do not see anymore beach on the cams. Does anyone know if there are any good places to setup and launch right now around Rooster? Is the mouth of the Sandy accessable this time of year? Anyone going out the next few days?

looks like you can find some dry land at Rooster (dropped from last week - it was nearing the tops of the poles in the pier)

Planning a Saturday trip to Rooster if anyone else wants to give it a go. Will do my best to stay out of the water though, Shocked
No, I don't snowboard or downhill ski.

Yeah me too. Actually Corey will be with me so we will both be wherever. I just kind of hope rooster is good because I know it's going to be a shorter session due to the cold so I'd rather not have to drive too far to get to it.

You can always just self launch Laughing

We kid because we love.
I'd get there early; the easterlies tend to back off in the afternoon.

PostThu Feb 02, 12 9:47 pm    Friday morning session Reply with quote

I am thinking about checking out Rooster tomorrow(friday) morning. I am open to other spots(Ponds, Stevenson) too if anyone is thinking of giving it a go, but with the high water I dont really want to try to self launch in a slightly sketchy situation as the water level might be limiting options. PM me if you want to meet up somewhere. That water is cold, kiting buddies are good this time of year in case things go bad out there....Seems like people are talking more Saturday, but I work weekends Sad

I work weekends too so weekend sessions are out of the question. I might be up for a sesh at the ponds next Monday or Tuesday if it's still blowing easterlies.

Im going to try and hit the ponds. Warmer water and air temps will equal a longer session.

From the cam this morning, Rooster looks to have some sand. However, it's blown 30 - 45 at Multnomah Falls according to WOTW. If it's doing that again tomorrow, I'm not too interested. If the wind comes down, I will be there in the afternoon.

Corey and I are going to head to Ponds tomorrow. Hopefully the wind and water will be decent there. Getting there around noon. Hope to see some of you there as well.

Wish me luck on not getting another concussion!

Tides are not looking good the next couple of days unless you are their for dawn patrol 8 foot exchange means showing up at noon will not have much water in the pond. you will have to sail out off the point unless you want a 20' swath of water for all to kite on. In reality you might have an hour or two at most with some water in the pond but you will be going on the outgoing tide. Hope it is good!! Thinking I might go sun as high tide is later but still a big exchange.
