Looking for a last-minute trip to Hawaii. I've been to Maui and it is great. I've heard great things about Kailua.

Looking to not be a one-dimensional kite trip - I have to keep the wife happy.

Anyone have any insight into Kailua? Is there stuff to do other than kite? Looks like a reasonable drive to waikiki and the north shore.

lot of stuff to do besides kiting..right now there ONLY things to do besides kiting. Might get some wind on Sat, but right now nothing.

Winter is a coin toss.

What time are you thinking of coming.

Surf is great right now though.

It's been a coin toss here in Maui too. Unless you want to ride Kona. And days like today are eerily still. No wind at all.

But then again it was blasting just 3 days ago. Had to strap down a few things that day.

Winter bro.

You're rolling the dice.

kailua is a nice area, the beach is cool, mixed use and easy, less wind than maui, usually. Choose a kite or two and apparatus, rent a board when you get there. One checked bag no extra fees. I only got dinged with my golf bag leaving Maui.$100. oh well. I was so soaked in Maui juice I didn't care.
Oahu has a lot to do and shopping too and blah blah blah. Don't miss the swap at aloha stadium, bishop museum, pearl harbor, lanikai beach, diamond head, hike to beach, Hanauma bay snorkeling. North shore is OK, drive around the east end and back on the coast highway.
Maui is nice too, and has better beach access activities @ Kihei. Better surf sup kite opportunities.
Have fun

ps no more rubber than a thin top.

If you get skunked on Oahu, try the acrobatic sailplane rides at Dillingham airfield. Doing loops over the surf is great fun and the scenery (where they filmed Lost) is awesome.
