I wonder how many in this community realize how far reaching this legislation has the potential to become? Freedom has always had a price in blood; today you can fight for freedom just by emailing your Congressmen and Senators to oppose this legislation.

The link to Wiki above will take you to a page that will help you contact your representatives. Today only though, Jan 18. Tomorrow it will just go to Wikipedia.

I've logged your name as a violation of SOPA, and when it passes I'm going to notify Naish. Razz

NDAA is already passed, that's a bigger deal than SOPA. Maybe if SOPA passes people will see just how screwed up our government is?

It can't pass, well not the executive anyways. Obama has vowed to Veto SOPA & PIPA.

For now the tree of liberty doesn't need refreshed with the blood of tyrants in effin' Congress. Those fackin' bastards are chipping away at all this sacred in this country.

SOPA is dead!

http://mashable.com/2012/01/20/sopa-is-dead-smith-pulls-bill/

At least for now. Unfortunately, the bill's author is the head of the House Judiciary committee. That guarantees it's revival after the elections. It should scare the holy hell out of damn near everybody that Smith is willing to toss your freedom away--the same freedom that Americans have bled for--for a couple of bucks in his pocket from the MPAA. This guy has power, and he cares not one whit for your freedom. Seriously.

I'm not saying we shouldn't be fighting Piracy, we should. But SOPA was about a lot more than Piracy. It would have given the government--or virtually any big corporation--the ability to silence critics. With zero judicial review or due process. This is what the Chairman of the United States House Of Representatives Judiciary Committee wants. Does this not scare you?

SOPA is not dead. It might be in its current form, but I bet they will sneak the shit as an amendment to this:
http://act.demandprogress.org/letter/snooping_bill

...and here is why they are pushing for it:
http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20120120/14472117492/mpaa-directly-publicly-threatens-politicians-who-arent-corrupt-enough-to-stay-bought.shtml

Please engage in the issues and if you feel like you support it, vote.

https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions/!/petition/investigate-chris-dodd-and-mpaa-bribery-after-he-publicly-admited-bribing-politicans-pass/DffX0YQv

The next few years will be critical in forming policies, and the only way Internet will not turn into shit is if you engage in the issues.
