Wed Dec 21, 11 12:48 pm What's the deal with Mt. Hood? |

Recently was snowshoeing around the cooper spur area of mt hood and hating myself for not having my board or kite.... Do they allow kiting on areas of mt hood? The area where i was (just above tilly jane a frame) was pretty untrafficed and I couldn't see it being an issue, but i know there are other spots by the timberline area that see more hikers. I remember seeing a post of someone who has done it before, but it was a while ago and i couldn't find it. Any info would be great!

"allowed" probably not if push came to shove, it's mostly wilderness and while not specifically excluded, "hanggliding" is specifically forbidden in wilderness areas and we can assume paragliding by default. Enforced? never been a problem over on the South side/Zigzag glacier, stay out of the ski area. It also very rarely blows up the hill, mostly cross and down. That all said, awesome when it works...

As with everything else.... soon as it becomes a regular destination for thrill seekers, the government will most certainly step in and enforce regulations and stupid laws that don't make any sense. It's probably best not to turn this area into a regular kiting destination.... blame all your thrill pursuits on random chance, and don't talk to the "elders" about it. _________________ http://windmountainproject.blogspot.com/ |
