Seems like a good idea to me. I've used my 9'3" coffin bag as a cozy shelter. You could do Maui for cheap if you could camp there at kite beach...but it seems like it's for native locals only.

Depends on if there is a holiday and how much green-gift you show up with.

Smile Jones beach is definitely a good place to start. I need to make more of an effort to get out there this coming year.

I went to check Jones Beach out a couple days ago and I thought it was awesome, more space than any place I have scoped out so far. Not much wind, but enough to fly my trainer kite for awhile.

The wind was solid, and didnt vary in strength or direction like other spots I have flown my trainer at that have stuff in the way like trees and mountains

Saw a guy with one the other day. He said it is perfect. 2 boards and a place to crash, plus not too pricey. Sounds good to me, no need to pack a tent.
