Sweet! What are you looking at? Just a suggestion, I would highly recommend looking for a used bike. If I built my cove shocker new it would cost upwards of $6500 and I scored it used for $3300. The $1400 fork and $1200 wheelset were a year old.

A new bike gets scratched up pretty quick. Just get a sweet fork, frame, and brakes and you will be money.

Nice work guys...

I am just getting back into the MTB thing after spending way too much time not riding (in Maui and bumming around in Europe). Just starting to get the tires off the dirt and it is a scary process. The ground comes up quick and the treees are way too close.

Slowly working on it, but for now... think I will stick with jumping off things and flipping over paragliders.

Tekko-

Sounds like our timing was pretty damn similar... October in Whistler... Last weekend of the park. Also the last weekend I've done anything fun (with the exception of welcome another child into the world (sorry Cassady), though now I can't change diapers, so I guess it's got its upsides).

Pins come out next week, but like you I still have trouble sleeping from the ribs.

In spite of all that it's definitely worth it. I think it's the most fun thing I've ever done and assuming my newly limp wrist is up to it, I'll be back at Whistler this spring. I've spent almost half of the year with my right arm in a cast (thumb surgery from a surfing accident in Feb, then this) and I'd way rather do that every year than spend my life indoors.

OUCH!!

As it seems that some of you have found out, learning HOW to fall is critical. I NEVER ever NEVER put my arms out. The other biggie is that you want to tuck your shoulder and head together if your going to land on your shoulder, chest, etc.

broken collar bones and separated AC joints are some of the most common DH injuries.

I won't argue with you concerning MTB crashes, but "Never" is a big word. I got taken out by a car in 2000 while out for a run--I was thrown 75 feet. I had both arms out--according to witnesses--and broke both arms and one hand on impact. Thing is, that saved my life. My arms breaking absorbed impact that my head and chest were then saved from. I was told that had my arms been in I almost certainly would have been killed. Yeah, it's backwards from what I'd always been taught and practiced. Head in, break the fall with your shoulder and roll. I have no idea why I put my arms out, I have no recollection of the incident after my legs broke when the car initially hit me. I was conscious as my head wasn't hit. So I'm assuming I made the decision to put my arms out. All I know is that I'm glad my arms were out, even though 99.9% of the time you're better off having them in.

Crashing is part of mt biking just like it is with kite boarding. Flying through the air doing either is the MONEY! It's all about having fun! Launch yourself off some of the cliffs at whistler and you will feel like you can conquer anything (assuming you know how to dh, otherwise bad things happen).
I came from mtn biking to kiteboarding because I knew it would be a rush! Out of both sports I say dh is harder to get good at. Kiting is dangerous but dh is more dangerous. The ground hurts a lot more then water especially when you launch off an obstacle. I have plenty of friends from mtn biking who have spent time in the hospital and a couple of others worse....
If you are looking for an adrenaline high learn how to free ride.... Know though if you don't respect it the penalty steep.

Spending that much money on a bike that you don't ride uphill? Just buy a motorcycle that doesn't work. great shocks and you still get to push it uphill. I love mt biking but I ride uphill too! Don't want to get fat and lazy! Nice pics though!

Ahhh. I knew the uphill and fat and lazy comment was coming at some point.

I rode xc for almost a decade. It was fun for awhile but a trip to the north shore in 2000 was enlightening to say the least. For those that think DH is easy or that we are lazy. I invite you to come riding with us for a day. Four or five runs down the local DH trail (no, there is NO Dh in post canyon) and I guarantee you will be exhausted. Without a solid bike, you may be hurt as well. Or at least severely hating it.

There are trails, and there are trails with stunts, and then there is gnarly, rough, holly shit DH runs. You hit those a couple times in a day and your entire body will get worked..not just your legs

Anywho, it is kind of funny. I swore off this kind of riding in 2003 and bought kite gear, now my kite gear is dusty and I can't stop thinking about riding.

But yeah, I don't ride uphill though. That is just retarded. Smile

I ride a stinky primo by kona and have 7 and 7 of travel and it weighs 38 pounds. I ride this bike uphill and hit jumps! The biking scene here in jh has blown up! Its become a world class biking destination with incredible dh and cross country trails. I see the lure of getting all geared up and riding lifts with your bike. I have seen some of the trails out your way and they look fun!
