Youkai, glad to hear you are okay man!

I had a similar experience in July out at Maryhill. I didn't post up at the time b/c I was waiting to see how well my neck was going to heal up. It has taken about 3 months but now it is back to normal.

So, I've been kiting for 10 years but consider myself an OG at age 39. Also, I switched to entirely strapless after the incident.

Basically, it was an F-16 gone very badly. So I hit the water rather than land like you. But, the result was similar. I was knocked out silly and floating face down in the water... about 20 feet offshore in front of my wife, kids and friends. Some paramedic bystander rushed out and pulled my head up, then stabilized the neck. But then, I was good. I proceeded to walk to shore, put away my kite and gear and headed back to the trailer to pack up. I don't remember anything from the time I was upside down from 20-25 feet coming down... until my buddy was driving my trailer and family to the Dalles hospital to get my noodle checked out.

Head and neck CT's were good, but a very sore neck for 3 months. Neck finally felt back to normal about a month ago. In the meantime I kept kiting but switched to strapless. I'm hoping to get some Lanes in next week!

Take it easy man, and take advantage of the winter to get fully recovered! Because you are not missing much with cold, muddy winter easteries.

Best, Todd

Seems that I don't have much of a choice as far as waiting. I was going to wait until I felt back to normal anyway but it seems they cut the wetsuit and shorts off me >.<

So I guess I can't go kiting again till I pony up the money for a new wetsuit. Sad day.

I would really feel better if I could remember what the F happened. It's sort of unnerving not remembering anything about it.

I hear you. I have two serious incidents in my life I have no memory of. One, like yours, was a head trauma. The other was just bad enough that my sub-conscious decided that I didn't need that memory. Either way, really in the long run, you're probably better off without the memory. Re-living that in your dreams isn't a great way to get any rest. I can think of a few other memories I could do without. It's better to not remember something and wish you could, than it is to remember something you really wish you could forget.

BLASPHEMER!!

Ha! Some of us non-commercial-pilots have to put our drysuit money into going someplace warm in the winter.

The kite is recovered. I haven't done a full inventory yet but I think I got everything back except the wetsuit/board shorts that the med team cut off. I'll get a new suit soon enough it's just an annoying expense when I didn't plan on it. That's going to make it take longer to get my new board.

Glad you're feeling better and survived the beating Youkai. Them darn kites have a mind of their own sometimes!!! You can always buy a new better wetsuit, but not body parts!! Just happy it all ended well

Youkai thanks for the update.
About your wetsuit, considering it was fairly new, I'd be inclined to contact the manufacturer and explain your story.
Chances are they will help you get back into another wetsuit.
Your situation is unique to where they may feel compassionate enough to replace it or heavily discount another suit. It's worth checking into

Haha. Good times. Thanks for the well wishes everyone. I'm still fighting a severe case of being too damn sleepy which I guess is associated with head injuries. I'll take a couple weeks to get over that and get back into athletic shape before I worry about finding a wetsuit.

Go out and get some for me while I'm on the injured list. Smile
