Definitely the best I have seen so far.
There has got to be better coming as we were towing paragliders and got shooed off the river by the helicoptor that was running up and down the White Salmon.
So, somewhere there has got to be some pretty spectacular arieal shots.

It lived up to Monkeyboy billing. Watched walls of silt getting eatin-away and calf-off like a glacier.

I was most impressed by the volume of silt in the river which will eventually make it's way down. Hard to know how long it will take. Even though I've been very skeptical about any kind of sandbar forming. Who knows. It could happen.
Check out all of the stumps;

so fuking sad when they block an entire river
easy to take just part of it and let the rest stay beautiful (North Umpqua)
but when they built these things (I guess) nature was the enemy
probably more likely some empowered engineer in a position of authority
making a name at the taxpayes expense
Anyone living in the flood plain deserves the occasional house wash
and not with the taxpayers picking up the tab(national flood insurance)
Blue River and Cougar dams certainly ruined the McKenzie River
in my lifetime
40,000+ salmon before ther dams ,less than 3000
five years later
guess they didn't go for the trucks as much as humans do

Like I stated before, there ain't a going to be a sandbar. Kind of surprising that no sandbar at all formed initially. But then again, the Columbia is hungry for sediment and it's 30' deep near the white salmon bridge.
Most of the sediment is already gone. The lake was 6' deep when the pulled the plug on it. I think the winter rains and snow melt will wash away a fair amount of some of the remaining deposits. Any dangerous slopes will be stabilized mechanically. Then everything gets replanted.
It really is spectacular though.
