Fri Sep 30, 11 11:47 am knot in the end of LE bladder to fix blowout |
|
|
i was fixing a slow leak in the LE bladder. when "done" i forgot to put one of the ends of the bladder back in, folded up in its velcro sleeve. started pumping up the kite, pop! LE bladder popped at the very end where it was sticking out.
i tied a tight knot in it (there was enough slack) and put it together. seems fine, holding air. bladder is at end of LE.
anyone perform this jury rig and have long term success?
found this from years back, was wondering if it lasted...

Not recommended.. but back in the day I had a couple of the ends blow out and just tied it in a tight knot and then backfilled the end of the le bladder with random bits of foam... |

Yeah Chris, good temporary fix, the problem is it shortens up and leaves a gap or void in the wingtip and the bladder stretches into the void and pops again.
A better fix is the seal-a-meal or hot iron fix. Essentially making a new seam, doesn't shorten it as much as a knot. _________________ Kite Repair? AND WINGS Call me.(509) six 37-four five 29 |

I agree with the Dangler.
Here's a link to the general process of a more complicated fix....

he could have used an iron/pencil combo at the end but chose to show the impulse sealer deal.
find an old piece of bladder and practice first to get the time/temperature thing worked out using your wife's iron
A round pencil works fine as a small dowel for the wing tip.
I've done this several times on various kites...no problems. |

You can thank him kiteboardbc.com, he's the owner/adminstrator, his username there is cglazier, he's a good guy! He'd be happy to know people are still using that post. |
