Anyone have any experience using a 10m Rally kite with a 14m bar to get a 12m equivalent?

Or a 14m Rally kite with a 10m bar to get to the 12m Rally range?

I currently switch out boards to make the conversion, but am curious if there is experience in the above combos. I've been too lazy to try it myself.

Cheers

I tried my 14m Rally with a 20" bar and 23m lines. I liked the line length for wind above 15, the bar was too short though. It made for a sluggish kite. I'm going to cut my lines down to 23m and turn the excess into 4m extensions for wind <15...

The 10m has a 20in bar and 23m lines.

The 14m has a 23in bar and 27m lines.

Nak, I like the idea of shortening the 27m lines. If I'm not brave enough to do it myself, any ideas of who can do that for me?

Airtime in Hood River.
They've shortened a few sets of lines for me. They're quick, cheap, and high quality.

Doing it yourself is a piece of cake. Search "making a lineset" here for instructions. Your lines are already pre-stretched, so you can skip that step.

I have ridden my 14M Rally with the 10M Rally's bar and I definitely noticed it had less bottom end. So, makes sense that you'd be able to take it out in some higher winds. It de-powers nicely either way.

That's a good idea. I hadn't thought of it but often wish my 6M Rally just had a little more juice...

Airtime will charge $56 to make a lineset for you- $7/ line. For a 4-line bar, that would be 8 lines x $7= $56.

Thanks for the feedback.

Maybe you're quoting the cost to shorten 2 sets of lines?
how do you come up with 8 lines for a 4 line kite?
If they're shortening, they only shorten one end.
At least that's what they did for me. $28 to shorten one set.

I like having several sets of line lengths on various bars. It allows me to get more range out of my RPM's without over sheeting the de power.

Its not that hard to cut your lines down and use the sheaths that were on it to begin with.
Take a close look at how the sheaths are doubled back and stitched. Just undo the sheath stitching and slide the sheath down the line to below where you are going to cut it. Cut the lines on your perfectly measured marks. Take the sheath to flush with the end of the line and double it over making the loop. Stitch it, or have someone stitch it with zig zag so the stitch goes through the sheath on either side and through the lines inside the sheath, on both lines. Make it look like it was before you took the stitches out and BAM, it looks just like new. Works great, I do it all the time. Then buy or make some extensions to the length that you need when you want longer lines.

Dude, it's a lineset- meaning one 27m line cut to 23m with a 4m extension. Each line would have 2 ends to deal with x 4.

Nak - you have any help/guidance on sewing lines up? How-to with sewing machine, what thread to use, etc.? Also, it seems like it would be near impossible to stitch up a la the amsteel method between the braid sections, line is so damn skinny! Any thoughts on brummells?
Gracias

You can lock stitch with "Whipping Line", I get it at West Marine. It's kinda like dental floss. Or, sometimes I'll lock it with Jerry Brown 2 part super glue. Regular super glue will not work. If you use the jerry brown stuff, make sure and let the glue drops drop onto the line. If the glue drop is still touching the bottle when it touches the line, enough activator will migrate in to the glue bottle to ruin the glue. Not good at $25 a bottle...
