I have a 2009 10m Switchblade with 22m lines. I want to double the lines over and temporarily make them 11m lines. Has anyone tried this before?

I plan to just take the pig tails off one end of the lines, double the line over and put them back on the end of the lines that is now a loop. Basically, after doubling the lines over, one end of the 11m line will have two ends and the other end has a loop.

Does that make sense?

Probably not a good idea, the friction from the line rubbing on your spectra connection is going to cut through it really quick.

Save yourself from a possible impending disaster and just buy some short lines. I think airtime will sleeve line sets for you.

Cheaper and safer in the long run

Cut your lines in half and splice in loops. Practice on some spare line first; it's really easy to do.

Well, I tried to go buy some spare short lines, but the local shop only wanted to sell me a 150m spool for $140 rather than just the 50m I need. If he made me a set of short lines (using knots not sleeves) from that same spool it was gonna cost me $120....

They were using qpowerline, anyone know a good place to order the smaller spool from online?

You might have luck posting up here/other forums looking for it. Some people buy spools to make their own line sets.

a better option for a short lineset would be to acquire a couple of sets of line extensions.
this summer I made a short line set bar with two sets of naish 7m line extensions.
now I have a bar with 14m lines and it works great for teaching with my daughter.

I like the idea of extensions, but cabrinha uses that IDS line so the front lines are 18m and the back are 22m. I guess I can mod one of the extension sets

2nd that. I might even have 12m left of each line that I could sport you way.

Ah, it just clicked, cutting the lines and splicing loops in sounds good, I'm new to kiting knots/splicing, any tips/pages/pics on how to splice the loops?

I've seen guys sew loops, maybe I can just have a guy here who does quality work sew some loops on the cut ends.

Its not that hard to cut your lines down and use the sheaths that were on it to begin with.
Take a close look at how the sheaths are doubled back and stitched. Just undo the sheath stitching and slide the sheath down the line to below where you are going to cut it. Cut the lines on your perfectly measured marks. Take the sheath to flush with the end of the line and double it over making the loop. Stitch it, or have someone stitch it with zig zag so the stitch goes through the sheath on either side and through the lines inside the sheath, on both lines. Make it look like it was before you took the stitches out and BAM, it looks just like new. Works great, I do it all the time. Then buy or make some extensions to the length that you need when you want longer lines.
