Dillion and the other Mtn. reservoirs are very gusty with frequent summer afternoon thunderstorms. There is Cherry Creek reservoir in SE Denver and another reservoir in Aurora. Boulder Res. is small and gusty, we used to windsurf there. The common denominator in Colo. is small and gusty. Winter kiting is much better! _________________ moondog |

You can not kiteboard in Lake Dillon. I am fairly certain the same thing applies to Green Mountain Reservoir. Both of these lakes are Denver's water supply and they are super protective about human contact with their water. Go ahead and run your oily 2-stroke gas motors in the lakes but whatever you do, never swim in them. It makes no sense to me. _________________ KB4C!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go to Lake McCounaughy. Up I-76 from Denver in Ogalala NE. Its 30 miles long has perfect sand beaches and nukes !

Speak to Papa Bob. Water was up but down now and the beach is nice. We will be there all weekend. Very nice people. Great beef. _________________ Ozone Reo's. You can kite in Green Mountain and Walford but both are cold and gusty. _________________ Ozone Reo's. C&k Beach Boy Service, Windsurfing Waikiki, Hawaiian Windriders, NSRN. |

And always remember, semi arid desert winds can be THERMALS. i.e they can go UP unlike most marine layer winds. Especially unusual strong wind when a T-storm is nearby, it's most likely a short lived gust front, ugly.
the local hang gliding/paragliding and sailplane communities usually have it all dialed in

it looks like the lake is so high, that the beaches are washed out, no place to rig? Is that still the case.
Also, what is the season here, is the fall still good to go, or do the winds die.
Thanks |

Blue Mesa is OK. Can be riddled with poltergusts and severe direction changes. Water is very cold. if you kite there dont go out farther than you want to swim in very cold water. The best launch is Cow Camp on the north side, mid lake or so. Way better for snowkiting. I have actually windsurfed in a complete circle there. Worth looking at. Eat at the "W" in Gunnison. _________________ Ozone Reo's. C&k Beach Boy Service, Windsurfing Waikiki, Hawaiian Windriders, NSRN. |
