Someone recently mentioned this to me. Googling it I found a couple YouTubes with people on what looks like a snowboard but with kiteboard-like footstraps sliding along the sand behind a kite. Looks like fun.

Does anyone do that here in Oregon? I canīt find anything with a NWKite search. We have some of the best combination of wind and dunes/beaches anywhere so why not?

Any tips?

If you mean something like a skateboard with larger wheels, it's sometimes called Kite Ground Boarding -- it's fun but IMHO not as much fun as kiteboarding in the water. Kite buggy is another option for the coast. I go a lot less often now that I have learned to kiteboard.

Sunset Beach is probably the most popular spot to head from PDX. We bring a couple of buggies (easier) and a board down there once in a while. Most days there are other buggy-ers around; rarely more than a dozen. Most people use foil kites but I have seen one person using a KGB with a water kite at Seaside 18th street beach -- another popular spot.

Look for low tide and good winds and there will be some people mixing sand, kites and beer at Sunset Beach.

No, I think he means a snowboard on dry sand.

I've seen this too.

Post some vids, someone. You might have something here!

Dry sand, winter downwinder from Gear to Shipwreck. That could be epic!

Sorry again for the double posting of this topic. There are more responses in another under the same title.

Yup, I meant on dry sand because the usable hours for landbarding on wet hard sand are severely limited by the tides.

Here are a couple of links. I hadnīt found the PowerKite one prior to this posting on NWKite but there is a lot of info on it:

The major problem appears to be to be doing more than just going downwind. Seems like you should be able to edge in sand just like snow.

This might stretch your lines, due to surface friction.

Landings might be a beach, as well.
