If you see someone standing with their kite in the air trying to land, please don't be one of those people who avoid eye contact. I had to sit behind four people trying to land their kites on the sandbar because no one was helping out. If your one of those people don't be surprised if my kite bumps you on the way down.  |

When you want someone to catch your kite, and no one is looking at you, a good way to attract attention is to say: "HEY" or "Catch my kite, please"...your voice will carry quite well, since the people you are addressing are downwind of you. When someone looks at you, you can 'pat your head'.
Don't be "that guy"... the guy who brings his (or her) kite down in a crowd to make a point.
Lots of time, mommy is busy doing something else and can't be watching you... (opps, was that out loud...sorry!). |

i think the msg, and many others similar to etiquette, is that the sandbar doesn't have the 'gorge' vibe it used to. starting to feel like kiting in miami out there. whatevz. still the most fun you can have. keep a kiteboarder, happy and stoked, attitude. dont let yerself get all "starboard", not that you are. more of a post for tolerance and hoping we all stay stoked. but seriously, take care of each other rather than ignore each other and try to run people off their boards over.
what is it? helmet/go joe/something have the right of way? funny. |

Exactly what i was addressing. Thank you.
I was hoping others would as well grasp that i was just trying to raise awareness, rather than attracting the attention of the collateral whiz whom bashes on everything they can. |

Jon and OG how long have you been kiting in the Gorge? Maybe you guys can help enlighten everyone regarding what the Gorge "vibe" used to be?
I try and kite from the Event Site everyday during the summer and the Sand Bar is still all smiles, laughs and the same laid back attitude I've been enjoying for the past 6 years. Sure you get a few busy weekends during July and August but that adds to the good times and anyone who complains that the 'effing Columbia River is crowded just doesn't get it.
It's Friday.....get on the water and ride that stress away amigos. |
