Great day at Stevie yesterday. Kiters kite goes down, he gets tangled, and a windsurfer tows him in.
Good on ya, windsurfer!
Bit earlier I'm doing an up wind-er when I happen across a woman shouting and waving near the Oregon side. She'd been separated from her gear (windsurfing) tried swimming to it, but it kept going away from her till she was exhausted. Swallowed a bit of water, too, and she was in some distress.
Glad I was in the area to help, towed her to her gear and she sailed it in.
Maybe now I won't get as many dirty looks when I kite in the "windsurfers" part of the river. |

Way to go Dangler! I heard about the story as soon as I hit the beach late yesterday. Lucky you were way upwind and spotted her.
Saw you rescue a board or two yesterday as well. Gettin' soft in yer old age? (thanks btw for grabbing my board).

I just hope the windsurfer got the cold ones I dropped off for him after his session! I was the kiter that had the issues there on Friday BTW. My safety inadvertently released and I was forced to self rescue. That was my first self rescue in an env't that isn't totally controlled also so it was really cool that he stopped to check in.
I also wanted to give a big thanks to everybody at the beach, especially Roger, who walked me through a couple key errors I made while self rescuing. It's really awesome to have people so friendly and willing to help so that the next time I'm forced to swim in it goes much smoother.

my 14 yr old kiteboarding son towed in a windsurfer yesterday who spoke little english (maybe russian) while another windsurfer who spoke maybe chinees tried to save his gear! what a great display of sportsmanship from all parties!
I've saved a few windsurfers in the last few years...only hoping that carma will help me when I need it! |

..best way of getting rid of dirty looks...pretend you do not seem them. Go over and talk and smile. Even if you get some attitude int he beginning. It works. Smile. Say hi. Talk. Ask how their session were. Agree a lot. etc. |
