Wed Jul 20, 11 8:16 pm Vancouver Island, kiting in the Port Alberni inlet |
|
|
Want to be in front of cameras while kiting?
A professional videographer will be in a helicopter flying over the Alberni inlet filming high action kiteboarding.
Sat, July 23th 12 pm
Wild West Watersports
Port Alberni, Vancouver Island, BC, Canada
Organized by the Alberni Valley Adventure Association.
The goal is to create a High Definition video to increase the awareness of the beauty and adventure aspects of the Alberni Valley. This will help demonstrate how amazing the elements of the mid-island hotspot of Port Alberni’s mountainous region are.
Additional activities to be represented will be mountain biking, diving, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, wakeboarding, soaring, climbing and ziplining. Also, beautiful scenes and lifestyle/culture images will be filmed over the course of the week.
Forecast for the end of July in PA, typically the best summer weather of the year, currently looks sunny, warm and stellar!

I just spent 5 days in Barclay Sound where my brother lives in the Summer coming from Port, as the locals say. Kiting, you've got to be kidding? Where? There was no kiteable winds the entire time I was there catching salmon, bottom fish, prawns, crabs, clams and oysters. I saw more eagles than people. Come to the Gorge to kite.

Fri Jul 22, 11 8:57 am Pt Alberni, hottest Valley on Vancouver Island; filming |
|
|
Filming from the helicopter (of kiteboarders) for the Alberni Valley Adventure Association has been moved up to this
Sat. July 23rd at 4-5 pm, due to weather forecast.
Since Port Alberni is the hottest spot on Vancouver Island, and is at the end of the long inlet on the west coast of Vancouver Island, it draws in epic thermal winds, usually later in the day in the summer.

Pt Alberni is a town in transition (from industry to recreational adventure tourism) and has had no reasonable access to the inlet for kiting.
With the establishment of Wild West Watersports, Pt Alberni now has access for recreational, small craft boats ie. kiteboards and windsurfing.
WWW is a day-use park that is an area that offers ample parking, grassy rigging area and access to the windy inlet.
Come check out Vancouver Island's new venue for kiting in Pt Alberni!

Sat Jul 23, 11 6:29 am Vancouver Island, kiting in the Port Alberni inlet |
|

Waking up in Port Alberni with the right conditions for a stellar summer day ahead! Marine fog over the inlet, with sun and warm temps in the forecast.
Helicopter arranged to land on the Wild West Watersports grassy, rigging area for noon. Filming of SUPing, kayaks and rigging gear, etc. before the wind starts. When the wind kicks up, the film crew will be shooting the kiteboarding/windsurfing action from the air and by boat, mid-afternoon.
Thanks for all of the people who are travelling to be part of this experience.
You can watch the action through the BigWaveDave.ca Harbour Quay webcam in Pt Alberni.
