Hilarious. I knew most people in the gorge were dicks, due to overcrowding, gusty wind, horrible launches, etc... but this really takes it up a notch. Kites stolen twice? Thats 3rd world shit or at least a Maui vaca.

Are They really Dicks there?! Others say to beat him !
I met some very nice local people early season this year. I'm older than they by a good number of years but was respected and made to feel welcome.
I also met a couple of guys hanging around the event site that after a bit I realized were not kiters but still locals. I helped one young fella with some gas and a ride. I'm sorry that for whatever reason life has bumped some into the gutter.
These thoughts of violence are normal but don't end up putting yourself in a bad situation , leave it alone and for the cops to deal with it.
Think about this , you pop the guy one out of this anger and he falls and hits his head. Severe injury , brain injury , medical attention , maybe Death ! Now what !? Your life is over because of a loser that sucked you to his level. Best just to verbalize it to vent to your pals and leave it at that. Be careful as the use of threats can land you in trouble as well.

Thanks for the positive comments Jack. This is specifically a abnormal incident and is an unfortunate situation of people sharing their dirty laundry on the public forum.

99.9% of the people here in the Gorge are good people and theft is normally not ever an issue. Most of the time, at our shop, the biggest problem is getting lost gear back to it's owner due to their not putting their name and ph number on their gear.

I think that, also, due to this being such a significant theft and it being at such an inappropriate time, there are high emotions, plus the enthusiasm of forum lurkers who enjoy stirring the pot just for forum entertainment.

Life is still "All good in the Hood."

The bitching is entertaining, but it is reflecting badly on the community as a whole.
This incident happened on private property in the middle of the night. It did not happen on the beach or in the parking lot. It is not an indication of what a visitor to our community should expect when kiting in Hood River.
My income is directly affected by the public perception of Hood River. No matter how hard I work to provide safe cost effective kiteboard lessons, some of my future students will read this shit and decide to learn in location that is perceived as less stressful.
Please cut the shit and focus your comments on the 3 people involved.
Over 1 thousand kiters have kited the gorge in the last 2 weeks without having their kites stolen or having a conflict (the one exception being the mass start of the race).
Everyone please chill and respect the hood river kiting community.

Interesting how those with a financial interest dominate this site, ala Kiteforum. Too bad, opinion must be silenced! I also spend good money visiting the Gorge over the last 16 years so being local doesn't give you any special preference or knowledge. In fact, I was going there before kiting existed, so your credibility is less IMO.

I would still reccomend Hatteras for learning for obvious reasons, safety being foremost.
But those with purely commercial interests should not fret, after all where else in the U.S. can you go in July/August for guarenteed wind? Nowhere.

P.S.You monitered a 1000 kiters, while giving lessons and there were no conflicts? I guess you are special!

Learning in The Gorge is a great idea for all looking to learn the sport. You can't get lost because you in a river, and once you can kite The Gorge winds you can kite any winds Smile

And p..s.. no need to use Mark's 1000 kiters comment to sound like a dick.

U can't get lost? No but the first time a barge stares u down or the current leaves u without your board, you will know fear my friend...

Once u have the skills it's great place

If you must learn there make sure the instructor has jet ski support. Then most issues are easily solved.

Mark, thank you for posting tips, warnings and advice on here. I would encourage people that want to learn to kite in Hood River, to take lessons from one of the local instructors.

Lets all hope for a great rest of the Summer !

wow lurk found yet another forum topic to turn into a hatteras/hood river learning debate.... what wonderful insight he has for all of us

dude if you love hatteras so much than please spare us and go there... maybe you could do a joint car wash and raise up the funds for new kites for claire and a plane ticket for you and then everybody wins
