We had a good one last year at our races..Kailua kite bum Tony tangled with a guy who started screaming at him, but soon realized that once two kites are tangled the pilots they are towing will soon meet in the middle, and the loud "what the F#$@#k a$$ s@#t fast turned into. "Oh, hi. Howzit...".

Nice, I love the pic with the red circle around the carnage Does anyone have a pic of this moment slightly downwind of the carnage? You will see me climbing on the rocks due to a self-releasing safety trying to keep my kite from powering up and dragging me to my death while trying to unhook my lines from rocks and re-bar cable before self-rescuing across the entire river because the skis are all busy saving the crazy Cuban. Gman: you couldve used that bearclaw(I wouldve helped you find a casey anthony jury)

I just wanted to add that there is ALWAYS another side to the story.....remember guys, we are hearing this from one of the three people that was involved in the tangle and I think its a little out of line for Gman to post his story as 'my tangle with a homicidal maniac' and to go on a public forum and say how he should have beat him up (or something along those lines, I don't remember his exact words I think it involved smashing him with a rock).
I was on the rescue ski and came up actually quite a bit sooner in the story than in Gman's version. All three kiters were still in the water and were arguing, it was not a one sided bashing from Jose as Gman describes. Words were definitely going back and forth.
I don't want to get too deep into this he said she said stuff but I hope that next time you decide to share an incident with the rest of the kite community you can be a bit more tactful about name calling. Sharing your story to point fingers doesn't benefit anyone. Maybe next time you can instead tell us how you would avoid a situation like this, or how it could have been handled better so we can all learn from the mistakes made by the three involved in the tangle.

Round 2 would be on July 23rd for the Cabrinha NW Race Series. Jose is currently holding the 2nd place position in the Open Class. Would love to have you up for the event Gman. Good luck bro!

Cuban, which explains the flare up. Overall he is a really great guy. It sounds like Phillip Schonger was also involved, and was apologizing on the beach for the little Cuban's bad attitude in what is basically a for fun event...
Wish I could have seen it!

It's no surpise; if you know a thing or two about riding with Gman,
You're always asking yourself, Do I feel Lucky today?
"Do I ride with him -or- run away from him?"
I think you should be the one driving the ambo;
You'd save us a heap of cash, and get us to the ER in style!

Guess I shouldn't have used quotes because yes, thats not your excact title, sorry.
My point being that theres no need for this type of name calling and blaming (especially on a public forum). Yes Jose can get a little excited but if you got a chance to know him, you'd know that he is a very talented kiter, all around good guy, and very beneficial to the kite community (I think itd be pretty safe to estimate that he has rescued the most kiters out there). He is always the first to offer help and I'm sure many local kiters will attest to this.
While it seems for the most part this is in innocent fun, I still think its a little much to talk about driving to seattle for round 2 and name dropping your seattle friends. You guys tangled in a race, it happens. Lets learn from our mistakes and move on.

Jumped the start. Hmm. I have been wrong many times but in this case I started well after the start. With over 50 starts in kiteboarding events, I have a good sense where to be and when to be in regards to the start line. For this particular event, I started in a small group of 5-7 other kiters at the far downwind side of the line and away from the large group of kiters near the bridge. I crossed the line about 10 seconds after the start and behind the leaders.
Yes it was quite exciting at the start with many things going on. 100 kiters, 7 knots of current, a giant eddy, and fluky wind near shore. Yes a chain-reaction of events took out my good friends John, Jose, and Phillip. Sorry you guys didn’t get to ride the first part of the race. I was on the downwind side of the boat and did not start the domino effect. The boat did a fantastic job and swerved many times to avoid all the kiters including me. Thank you start boat for not running me over.
The KB4C Event is the best kite event on the planet. I love the event, all of the participants, all of the volunteers, and especially the organizers. I am truly sorry if any of you feel that I got in your way.

Luke - I said the same thing "with 100 kites up, people get tangled, it happens"

Gman's funny recap is not a stoning and doesn't reference Jose by name because he had no idea who he was until the Seattle crew identified him....while their feedback does state the guy can get excited.
Obviously the kiting world is very small and the Cuban Crisis sounds like a competitive guy but KB4C is a charity race in a sport where shit happens and anybody that threatens to cut lines repeatedly needs to chillax.

Wed Jul 13, 11 11:31 am Kite wrapped with homicidal maniac |

Before I start my rant, everyone should know that I am Colleen's father and a good friend of Jose's. I was not there so I will not pretend to understand who said what to who and with what kind of tone. I will comment on this string of postings. It seems evident from G-man's recount that he swerved to avoid the boat and wrapped the other two kiters' lines. He had to avoid the boat but he initiated the tangle. Did he start by saying "sorry guys?" He also talked about one of the kites powering up and yarding the guy 20 yards down wind. His words, "damn, maybe he should have cut those lines". Everyone seems very eager to attack Jose's excited repeated threat "I'll cut your lines" which he didn't do even after getting drug under water. Isn't that why we carry kite knives? G-man, of his own omission, said he threatened to kill Jose! He also talked about how he was considering picking up a rock and bashing his head! G-man's behavior is funny and OK? I'm sure Jose wishes he had remained more calm but I don't see where he is deserving of all the venomous attacks. I've personally watched Jose fish dozens of fellow kiters and wind surfers out of the river over the years and I know we are all safer if he is anywhere nearby because he is always the first to sacrifice his session to check on or rescue someone else.
