Surely I'm not the only kiter looking to head up to Sauvies from the Salem/Keizer area for an afternoon/evening session this week. If anyone's interested in saving some gas pm me. |

From Salem - with afternoon Portland traffic - wouldn't it be faster to go to the coast? You would have to get past the I-5/205 back-up. Then the traffic in the curves and any other misc Portland traffic before you got to Hwy 30.
I work in Salem and live in Wilsonville and I have been thinking about the best way to get in an afterwork session. It seems to me that Road's End in Lincoln city would be faster - especially if there is a big traffic jam in Portland? |

Yes Lincoln City is definitely closer, a 1-hour drive. However, I'm not super comfortable in big waves, especially if I'm solo. I would be up for carpooling to Roads End or Siletz Bay sometime. Still Sauvies Island can be really fun and worth the drive, but I would not make the drive during rush hour for sure. Either leave Salem by 3 or 5-6 (if it'll blow late) and hope for light traffic. |
